We've just received word that Egosoft and Deep Silver have officially confirmed X Rebirth, the next addition to the sci-fi space combat series set in the X Universe. The game is going to "transport the multi-award-winning series to another dimension with radically new game design and top notch graphics." The developers have set the Q4 2011 as the launch window for the game.

X Rebirth represents a spectacular new beginning for the X series, offering loyal fans and newcomers alike a vast, vivid and extremely detailed universe to explore throughout the game.

Varied gameplay elements such as action-packed space combat, detailed trading mechanics and high-speed space exploration with fast travel allow players to experience a truly unique space saga that will keep them hooked for dozens of hours.

Okay, I'm definitely interested in this.

Samsung and Apple are currently attempting to sue each other, and in the course of all these legal exchanges, an interesting fact has been released. Apple has sold 108 million iPhones, 60 million iPod Touches, and 19 Million iPads as of last month, for a total of 187 million iOS devices. That's literally tons of aluminum and glass.

The DS, which has been available for much longer than iOS as a platform, and is the most popular videogame console currently on the market, trails behind iOS in sales by around 30 million units. Apple has clearly established a strong place in the market.

Nintendo is likely going to be unveiling a new console at this upcoming E3, how the other two console manufacturers will respond is anyone's guess.

Sony has released a few statements concerning a ten-year lifecycle for their consoles, and the PS3 probably could pull this off. Given how the PS3 has sold nowhere near as well as the Wii, and has not outperformed the Xbox 360, this could be a prudent decision from Sony. In all likelihood, Sony has not made the money it intends to make off of the Playstation 3 as of yet.

Microsoft just launched the Kinect, so that means they're probably not going to be releasing a new console any time soon, as the Kinect will stretch out the lifecycle of the Xbox 360. Microsoft will probably need to get new hardware to the market before Sony will, as the Xbox 360 is starting to show its age more quickly than the Playstation 3.

At this point, "the console wars" is a bit of a misnomer. The gaming audience has diversified, and Nintendo has capitalized on this. There's talk that the Wii 2 (which is probably not what it will be called) will have a touchpad with a camera for a controller, and a development agreement with Rockstar. Right now, Nintendo is in a league all its own, while Sony and Microsoft are fighting for second place.

The latest gameplay trailer for Anarchy Reigns introduces us to the character 'Nikolai' as he buzzes through hordes of foes. Anarchy Reigns is in development over at Platinum Games (makers of Bayonetta) and is being published by Sega.

Well, Capcom has shown us that their project Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City is well under way. But we do know for a fact that Operation Racoon City is not a sequel to Resident Evil 5, but rather a spin-off set in the RE universe. But where does it go from Resi 5?

Speaking to Spanish site MarcaPlayer, Capcom producer Masachika Kawata promised the next installment in the series is going be a "complete renovation." Still, the game won't forget the importance of earlier installments (thanks CVG).

"The series will see a complete renovation with the next entry on every level. But we can't forget about all the previous entries that have led to the creation of many possibilities for the franchise," he said.

The creator of the series Shinji Mikami also said to OPM: "I think Resident Evil 5 doesn't need to change the series, but Resident Evil 6 will have to reinvent the series with another full model change or else it won't be able to keep on going."

Sorry it's taking so long to post our reviews of Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat, we ran into a few snags related to AT's CMS and we're currently looking to straighten this out. It won't affect the site's performance, albeit it has taken a lot of our time. Anyway, time to get back to Aperture Science.
