NOTE: As their name suggests hints are not exactly Final Fantasy III cheats, and are usually just simple (but very useful) tips on how you can unlock secret level, features, find hidden areas and such. Hopefully these will make playing Final Fantasy III even more entertaining.
5x free Mini and Toad spells
When you first get the Mini spell from Desch, continue exploring until you find a forest with a gnome and a healing spring. He will tell you how to reach Tozus. If you have not taught yourself Mini, he will not give you anything. If you taught yourself Mini, he will supply you with another Mini spell. You can do the same with the Toad spell that you recieve from one of the blind men in Gulgan Gulch. You can do this trick up to four times if you wish, scoring one Mini/Toad spell per party member and one for your inventory.
This glitch works as if the game (which only counts whats in the inventory in this instance) thinks that you have originally sold/trashed the original Mini/Toad spell that you were supplied with.
Dive into Saronia? o_0
YOU MUST HAVE THE NAUTILUS FIRST. SAVE BEFORE DOING THIS.
If you take the nautilus and head to the western side of Saronia (the continent with the castle on it, upper left corner of map, not on the floating continent), there's an area with the most trees on that side. There should be a place between two rivers. If you touch down on the tip of this area that touches the ocean, you can actually dive into it. From there, you can 'bore' into the continent. If you exit into the ocean, it will push you out and you have to dive into the continent again. When tunneling through the continent, you won't encounter any creatures, as far as I can tell.
It is possible to surface at any point within the continent. In fact, you can surface through mountains. Like diving into the continent, entering an area you can normally fly around in will shove you out of the other area and not let you back. With enough skill and dumb luck, you can actually get to Falgabard without the Invincible. Of course, you can't leave after that, but hey, it's still funny.
Item Duplication
*WARNING: This item duplication will ruin the game play, please note to do this at your own risk. If may also damage your save file so please duplicate your save before you attempt this.
In Final Fantasy III, all useable items (not weapons/armors/magic) can be duped using this method, as mentioned, please use at your own risk.
Procedures:
1)Open menu screen via non-battle.
2)Select "Items"
3)Put the item you want to duplicate in the very top left corner in your item list
4)Enter a battle randomly
5)When in battle, go select "Item" on any characters.
6)Your cursor should be at the very top left of the item box, the item you have placed there. Once you're here, hit UP and A button at the same time
7)This will briefly take you to Wepon/Shield list (about 1/2 second). If you see this, the code has worked after you hit "cancel' or B button. Go to your invetory and you will notice that the item quantity has been added by one.
With this method you are able to duplicate any demishable items, even items you can't by such as Chocobo's Rage, Elixir, Phoenix Down. Note: This doesn't work in the PAL version of the game.
How to Beat Garuda
1. Change someone into Dragoon and buy good weapons for Dragoon.
2. While fighting him, make everyone in your party die except for Dragoon (helps if you use guard).
3. Use jump. You will keep attacking him but he can't get you.
Cloud of Darkness Battle
To kill the cloud of Darkness you need a Black Belt, a Scholar, and a Devout. The third position is up to, I used a Geomance whitch seemed to work well.
For the Devout you'll need the spells Curaga, Curaja, Arise, and Esuna and that's all you really need but if you have the rest that will help.
Everyone should be at least level 60 but the higher the level the easyer it is to beet the boss. Everyone should have a ribbon for two reasons: one, is because it helps with magic defence and two, because the Cloud of Darkness has two Tentacles that usually use "Bad Breath" that will inflict every status ailment on your party.
The Black Belt needs to have the Hellish Claws and the Dark Claws. Use the duplication cheat on either a Chocoboe's Wraith or a White Musk untile you have around 25 for all of the bosses in the world of Darkness and the Cloud.
If the Scholar uses either one of those at a high enough job level it will always do 9,999 damage. Use Curaga every turn unless your party doesn't have that much health then use Curaja. Attack with Black Belt every turn. If you have to use Arise, everyone else should use an elixer unless they have full health. If you're using the Geomancer as I did, try Terrian every turn. Within 5 to 7 turns, the battle will be cleared.
Find the Shuriken
To get the Shuriken (available only to the Ninja class for them to throw), head to Gysahl Town. Enter the ship where you can purchase Magic Keys. Go to the right of the counter in the store and you will walk through a secret passage that will allow you to go behind the desk. There you will find the treasure chest which contains the powerful Shuriken.
Easy Experience and Gil
In the Crystal Tower, there are summoner enemies that will summon creatures to attack you. If you continue to kill their summoned creatures but don’t slay the summoner itself, you can make a lot of Gil and experience while staying in the same battle. So, for instance, if you fight the summoner’s creatures 30 times, you will make in the region of 100,000 Gil and 72,400 experience.
Easy Job Leveling
If you want to be able to level up a character to job level 99 in any given job in only a few hours, try the following. Enter a random battle with as weak of an enemy as you can find (since it's arbitrary how strong the creature is). Select the "Guard" command for your characters. Do this for four rounds. On the fifth round, kill the enemy party. Each character will receive a job level. Repeat as needed.
