You can unlock a new feature in story viewer each time you beat that particular story in any of the single player modes.

Bad Progress: complete an objective from the same story book 5 times.
Bad Results Image: complete an objective from the same story book 3 times.
BMG: complete an objective from the same story book 6 times.
Game Background, and playability in Challenge and Versus modes: complete a story books objective for the first time.
Good Progress: complete an objective from the same story book 4 times.
Good Results Image: complete an objective from the same story book twice.

Access harder difficulties
Expert mode: Take every route and beat all levels in Hard mode with a bronze medal or higher.
Hard mode: Take every route and beat all levels in Normal mode with a bronze medal or higher.
