| Haven't seen it, but I recall reading that even the director said "Basically it's a three hour chick-flick masked in a cape and tights". | ||
2lions: That is pretty much EXACTLY IT. | ||

| I didn't think it was a chick flick at all. The romantic stuff was actually pretty minimal. The action, on the other hand, was great. | ||

| "The romantic stuff was actually pretty minimal." Dude, "The Platoon" has NOTHING to do with "Superman Returns"! |

| action? WHAT ACTION? 5 mins at the start - supes doing some vague random stuff and then YAWN..oh and 5 mins at the end which made me think that he's been WEAK for most of the other stuff he's ever done. where did the the plot go? why was lex such a waste of space? Why did I nearly fall asleep at the IMAX ffs. It was poor. |

| Lex was indeed a waste of space. His whole "evil plan" was idiotic at best and a complete sideshow. That was a pathetic movie. | ||

| Man I must be getting old. 30 seconds into my first (and only) viewing of the trailer I decided that there was no way in hell I was going to waste time and money on that piece of garbage but you guys actually sucked it in and endured several hours of crap even knowing beforehand that it was crap ... I'm impressed. That takes balls dudes. I hope she at least put out afterwards ;o) | ||

| Yep, because chicks love seeing people get shot with gatling guns (even if the target is invulnerable to it). I'll admit that the movie wasn't all action, but the scenes that were there were good. But, to each their own I suppose. I really enjoyed it (just hearing the music from the original movies got me excited), but I suppose I'm easy to please. | ||

| Heres what I think, not a failed movie, just a movie that did not live up to to its potential (failures are the ones with no potential that should never have been made, such as for instance "The Producers". The action looked good, but singer played up so much with superman the invulnerable factor in my mind. Yea sure nothing can hurt him and hes super strong, at least really make it seem like him stopping a plane hurtling down to teh ground like a chore. Shit, when he destroyed lex's grandplan (Oh and showing lex again at the end was SO fucking stupid) he barely seemed to be putting effort into it until the end. Thats just me, but even if you are strong as shit and invulnerable, i still think you can at least seem like there is effort into it. Had they cut out like half the flying scenes, done away with like the last half hour, and a few other things...I would have given it 2 out of 4 stars but as it is... 1 1/2 out of 4. at least it didnt have nicolas cage as superman |

| The movie was pretty much what I expected: some superman action+some love+bad guy+superman gets owned in the end+happy ending. I don't wanna see it again. | ||

| The movie needed more Kevin Spacey. Like, 10 times more. Than it might've been a movie worth watching more than once. | ||

| I love Kevin Spacey, one of my favorite actors, and as Lex, he's brilliant. The part of the plot involving Lex is H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. It's not just about how it looks on paper, it's the execution. It just lacks ANY punch. | ||

| I'd have to agree. Forget the obvious plot inconsistances and changes the original concept of Superman (I expected some of that anyway) but the movie was just dreadfully boring! I did like Kevin Spacey as Lex but yea it was all pointless. The evil plot was stupid like you all said. Just a total waste of film and budget. One major problem I had with the plot: Superman struggles to stop a plane from crashing. Ok sure we've seen that exact same thing before in other superman movies, etc but than he lifts a continent made of Krypronite with Krypronite shrades in his back into outer space. The very continent that made him weak from standing on it. Ummm no. | ||
| 2lions | [STAFF] [mail] Aug 14 2006, 02:57 pm EDT | |
| Ah yes, but! Kryptonite like any other crystal likes it from behind! How do I know this? Don't ask. | ||

| LOL I remember when I was in Geneva I overheard two ShowBiz guys talking at the Cafe table next to mine: ShobizGuy#1: Superman returns OOh yeah... ShobizGuy#2: This summer right? ShobizGuy#1: Aha! ShobizGuy#2: We got the early promote version in our office last week and it was just super awesome! ShobizGuy#1: Really? ShobizGuy#2: Yup and if this movie will be a success, I'll be running in the office with my pants down and my hands up! - I laughed and both dudes gave a serious look at me, even some women from other table smiled and looked at me (later I saw that she was with them) |
