"Lost to the almighty dollar," what? HD-DVD was trying to push Microsoft's HDi technology as their interactivity for the HD-DVD disk. HD-DVD had Microsoft's money behind them the whole way. The HD-DVD camp paid studios to support them. They paid $150 million alone for Paramount and Dreamworks to go exclusive with them. HD-DVD was an INFERIOR product! The ONLY way they could win is with the "almighty dollar" and thankfully their "almighty dollar" couldn't fool anyone.
HD-DVD was fighting with their money against a product which is superior. Don't believe me? Go have a look at any comparison charts or do your own homework and dig up the specifications on Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Price was the only thing that HD-DVD had going for itself, and that won't be an issue. Technology always starts off expensive and quickly drops in price.
Microsoft is the one who throws their money around to get what they want. Whenever they have something to gain (their technology behind an entire format), their money is behind it. They even paid Rockstar $50million just to have exclusive content on the new GTA game coming out for the 360, that way it has something over the competition's consoles. |
