You may be onto something here.

Modern "open world" games are imitating Skyrim which was not a good open world game. Just sticking lots of stand alone linear bits wherever there is space on the map without a sense of how the bits interact and how the player might influence them is not good open world game design.

Should've been about the Batman fiasco! More juicy bits there.
  Terminator: Agreed.

Then play some linear corridor shooters/RPGs, dude. I'm glad that there is variety and that open world has finally made a real breakthrough thanks to games like Skyrim (though I also agree with GallenDugall that the open world design in many games, just like any other game element for that matter, could always use some more refinements and tweaking and better structure etc.).
It's not an easy task but I'm sure developers will get better at it as the teams grow more and more experienced with open world design.
satangel: Take it easy, man! It's just a comic. :)

No.. the worlds will not collide if the world is PROCEDURAL. (think No Man's Sky)

I liked how the Fallout (3 and New Vegas) series meshed together the storytelling and locations. In many places there are references to other events and locations, pushing you to find out more about the story and world. Although, New Vegas seemed to be slightly watered-down to appeal to more people.

Still waiting for that &#%*%$^* Fallout Shelter game on Android. Bloody iOS heathens!

That was a perfect chance to have Jensen say "I didn't ask for this"
