Most Anticipated Games of 2011
Nothing beats that special feeling you get when waiting for a video game, buying it and then playing it for the first time as it hits the market. As we all know, by today's standards, a majority of games take approximately two-three years (in some cases even longer) to develop. Artists, producers, writers, programmers and voice actors join their efforts in one massive project until the whole thing is finally ready for hungry audiences across the world. Now, such is taxing both for the publisher and the development team. And that's if we're talking about well-funded, triple-A projects. Independently developed games are usually faced with damn-near impossible odds and only a few make a real impact (although, we are happy that the number of indie games has indeed increased to some extent in the last couple of years). At any rate, most of these games make it to launch day. Even though most of us here at ActionTrip can be childishly impatient when we see a potentially awesome game in development, we still appreciate how much time and sincere effort goes into game creation these days. Oh sure, we have a tendency to complain and moan in anticipation of a decent game, but, from some angles, we enjoy the wait too.
With that in mind, brace yourselves for another long year of anticipation and suspense. This one, mind you, should be rewarding and should bring a wide variety of top-notch titles our way. So, let's stop all this gay banter and take a glance at what's on the horizon.
Before we go any further though, we would like to explain that these are just 10 games we are looking forward to the most and they are listed in no particular order (so, it's not a top 10 chart, just so there's no confusion).
Publisher: Blizzard Entertainment
Developer: Blizzard Entertainment
Release Date: TBA 2011
After their unbelievable success with the MMORPG World of Warcraft, Blizzard Entertainment impressed gaming masses further with their splendid real-time strategy sequel StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. While their mysterious MMO project (supposedly entitled 'Titan') is still very much under wraps, they seem determined to deliver a new installment in yet another one of their globally acknowledged franchises. It's Diablo alright. At this point, it's obvious that Diablo III shows some serious potential, both in single-player and multiplayer. Blizzard is relentlessly polishing both aspects of the experience, showing off some rather cool gameplay elements. The developers disclosed all the playable character classes. Players will be able to choose the Barbarian, the Witch Doctor, the Wizard, the Monk or the Demon Hunter - the Barbarian being the only class that marks a return from the old games. We simply can't wait for this one...

Why it may kick plenty of ass: At the risk of sounding fanboy-ish - because it's bloody Diablo III!!
Why it may flop: If it's even humanly possible for a Blizzard project to fail, then I guess it could possibly be attributed to the company's much disputed decisions regarding art direction, which, on the surface, doesn't seem as dark or menacing as the art style in its predecessors Diablo 1 and Diablo 2.
Publisher: EA
Developer: Crytek
Release Date: 03/22/2011
Crysis remains debatable in gaming circles for quite a few reasons. One of the blatant reasons is that it was a PC shooter developed with the idea to put your system to the ultimate test. Although the concept for the game's storyline seemed downright retarded, the terrific atmosphere and the fast-paced action brought an immersive cinematic experience our way. Crysis pushed in-game graphics to the limits and Crysis 2 seems like it's gonna do just that and more. The famous Nano Suit grants even more options in combat this time around and there are some truly fun weapons on offer in the game. We'll be thrills to try this one out both on the PC and consoles.

Why it may kick plenty of ass: The footage we've seen so far promises some awesome action, impressive-looking weaponry and a visually stunning game experience.
Why it may flop: It may never reach the impact Far Cry made when it first stormed the gaming industry. Far Cry was a jaw-dropping, open-world shooter that made prominent developers like Valve and id Software hang their heads in shame.
Publisher: EA
Developer: BioWare
Release Date: 03/08/2011
Dragon Age: Origins was one of the greatest surprises in 2009. Apart from being a tribute to classical PC CRPGs, it ended up being a top-selling title and a widely acclaimed game across all three platforms (PC, Xbox 360 and PS3). In Dragon Age 2 BioWare is taking some brave steps in order to streamline the gameplay, making the most out of both the console versions and the PC edition. The developers are investing a lot of time to fine-tune Dragon Age 2 so that it feels right for PC, 360 and PS3 users alike. This is far from a simple task and, while we have already seen the game in action (both the console and PC versions), we are still damn curious to witness the final result. And no, we're not worried about the game going through a Mass Effect style dialogue make over. That may only improve things.

Why it may kick plenty of ass: The combat seems a lot smoother and a lot more exciting than before, the graphics were improved, which are important changes for any game.
Why it may flop: Some PC purists could still criticize BioWare's persistent efforts to "dumb-down" the game in order to make it more accessible to casual gaming audiences.
