A Short and Useful Guide to Oblivion Mod Heaven

6. Lighter Arrows - This is a personal favorite (Yeah, I'm still playing the game myself, so what? Plus, I find it a lot more rewarding than playing golf or strangling little rodents.) Due to my inborn ranger tendencies, I decided to put "Lighter Arrows" on the list to encourage ambitious wood elf archers, such as myself. It really comes in handy if you are annoyed by the fact that arrows always end up taking too much of valuable inventory space. The mod simply reduces the weight of arrows, making them ten times lighter than usual. (download link).

7. New Save Game Manager - This one adds a particularly clever and handy save game browser, allowing you to sort your saves into specific folders according to different characters you might be playing with. (download link)

8. Ariana Trudeaux - She's hot, she's clever and she's a mighty gifted archer. Of course, this wouldn't be my first choice for a companion, given that my character is also an archer. We were also impressed with the mod's supplementary dialogue, which was put in order to correspond with the story. If range combat is your turf, perhaps you would feel more comfortable with a melee-oriented comrade by your side. On the other hand, this friendly NPC is perfect if your avatar is inclined towards blunt-weapons and melee combat in general. Let Ariana keep enemies at bay, while you run off with the goodies... 9. Dragon Knight Armor & Talon of the Silver Hawk Longsword ver. 1.1 - One of the coolest weapons-and-armor mods currently available. When added to the game, this mod grants you access to the Dragon Knight Armor and the Talon of the Silver Hawk (a famed Ayelid longsword). In order to get your mitts on them, you'll have to head over to the Emperor's Master Suite in the West Wing of Cloud Ruler Temple... just open the chest and presto! Just so you know, the quality of these items can be compared to Daedric armor and weapons, but best of all, they are not enchanted, offering you a chance to customize them freely. (download link)

10. Mountain Tower - A practical and commendable inclusion for determined mage characters. Essentially, it adds a mage tower in the mountain area in the vicinity of Bruma (in Pale Pass). In addition to full housing (bed and storage included), the mod provides a solid background story, as well as a fully equipped alchemy lab and an enchanting chamber. One of the most praiseworthy extras is the sizeable library for piling up all those books you collect along the way (Amen to that! I had more books in my inventory than anything else.). For my part, this was a pretty sensible addition because I kept coming back to Bruma quite often. On the whole, it may not appear much to some of you, but it's still a decent mod. 11. Elven Cartographers - Map & Icons - For all you elven (or is it Elvish or Elf?) freaks, the Elven Cartographers - Map & Icons mod should be a cool addition due to its novel and colorful map make over, complete with new icons, reworked textures and more. It is also compatible with a majority of other mods (including the BTmod) which makes it all the more useful, I guess. (download link)

There you have it, kids. Of course, as to whether these mods meet your requirements and wishes is another issue. Ultimately, selecting the right mod is subjective and closely corresponds to the player's general preference and personal taste.

In closing, I'd like to thank the entire mod-making community for providing us with the necessary info and goodies for this article. We'd like to encourage everyone to pay a visit to the game's official web site, but for additional info, downloads, game tweaks and other useful tips, we advise you to head over to PlanetElderScrolls, OblivionPortal, OblivionSource, Chorrol.com, and other websites, all of which feature continual updates and enough content for all Oblivion enthusiasts.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The ActionTrip staff is not responsible for any dysfunctional or potentially corrupted files that may be accessed via the disclosed addresses. Certain websites may require online registration before you can utilize appropriate files. Then again, some websites offer free access to all related files, so you won't have to bother with annoying registration procedures. Also, we cannot make up for any possible problems that could occur after the installation of particular mods, so once again, we recommend you to back up any crucial game files before adding any of the aforementioned mods to Oblivion. It's is also advisable to read through the author's notes so as not to miss out on any info or updates vital to mod functionality and optimal performance.

Another very great mods are the retexturing ones, not the armor&weapons (glass mainly) retexture mods, but the environment mods, theres a new one that adds light to the windows at night in the cities, as well as more realistic indoor lights, it takes you some fps down as well. If u have more than 1gb ram, an awesome mod too is the Texture replacer: landscapes 2048 that replace normal maps that originally are 512x512 for 2048x2048, the game becames much more beatiful, theres a sky mod too, night sky mods adds realistic moons and stars, parallax maps mods makes surfaces more real, a good site for me is http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/
Do you all remember the first screeshots? the game looked better then the last ss a month before the game release they nerfed a little the graphics, 2lions commented that I remember... I think with the mods we can reach that first impressions of the game, there are plenty of really competent plp out there making what the game should been at the release, you know Bethesda is no doubt a great game developer, but there are small things that makes the game better and I cannot understand why the ** they dont do like, more wild animals, you only see deers in the forests, it would take so much time to make other creatures? why not fat plp too? i heard dual wield? horseback combat? i came to the conclusion that they thought about it and will release at a nice fair price of $1.99....

I decided not to play Oblivion until I upgrade, but DAMN it's tempting...

Now that I've also seen games like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (PC), I'd advise you not to play anything until you upgrade your PC... and I mead, upgrade it big time!

In regards to Oblivion, yes the darn thing is always tempting, but I still can seem to avoid weird technical issues in the game, no matter how much I tone down the visual parameters.

I've grown to loathe just the slightest subtle inference about this game. I hate what Beth turned it into, and I refuse to buy it until they fix it, I don't care if there's mods that do it, I want them to admit they suck and to fix it. Until then, I'm not buying it.

Never understand why OLDBlivion.exe is never included in reviews like this, when you consider the comments above about having to upgrade! I have a 5600XT and with OLDBlivion I am playing the game quite happily thank you! This utility has helped literally 100,000's of Oblivion gamers with non uber PC's.

Also, if you are going to review mods, it really needs to be ongoing. For example Francesco's mods now has added other mods and made them compatible, including an arrow mod, a better combat AI mod, faction routines, 100's of new weapons and dozens of new monsters/NPC. There is another mod Marl's monster mod that adds more monsters/animals and NPC's and works with the Francesco mod (even has a seperate esp for Francesco compatibility!) The best mods evolve and the more support mods like Francesco's gets (100,000+ downloads) the bigger they get and the more sophisticated! With Francesco/Marl's mods, Oblivion has become for me what it always should have been. A fun challenge with surprises around every corner!
