Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning - Progress Report Part 2

Paul picturesquely added: "My boy relentlessly annihilates his dad and he laughs and won't ever let me live it down. So I have an aversion to PvP. So what I like doing is I like going off on my own and doing Player vs. Environment so I don't have some 9 year old kid pummeling me into the dirt. And so what I like about W.A.R., is that when I go off and do that, I'm left alone, I have a complete game experience, I am one of the malcontents who just want to do PvE and be left alone, but I can level all the way through the game, I can take on Giants, I can kill Dragons, I can help with Siege equipment, and what happens when they start burning the city to the ground, I can wander over and I can go into the city, do all sorts of crazy quests, pillaging and murdering and not have to worry about anyone else. Whereas my boy, all he's done is the PvP part of the game, all he wants to do is kill people forever and he's happy too."

"There are over 300 PQs in the game. We have everything a player could want to do, represented in our PQs..." "What we want to do is have people stand around the water cooler at work and talk about all of the great things they did with the PQs the night before."

Public Quest System

PvE Siege is in the game, evidently. You are able to use Siege Weapons on NPCs for quests.

"There are over 300 PQs in the game. We have everything a player could want to do, represented in our PQs..." "What we want to do is have people stand around the water cooler at work and talk about all of the great things they did with the PQs the night before," claims Jeff.

On Scenarios and Guilds

"Everything that you're doing -- questing, PQs, RvR, crafting - also helps your guild to advance and as your guild advances you'll unlock really interesting things like our Guild Banner System."

When Scenarios were brought up, the devs. have essentially repeated the whole podcast from the official web site. One cool moment we didn't know was that there will be over 30 Scenarios. They'll be available at every level during the game. The Guilds were covered earlier as well (in the recently released Guild Podcast). However, an interesting point was made about players who don't want to join Guilds. Will they be at a disadvantage as opposed to 200+ person guilds? The answer was:

"No. We have things in place to try and equal things as much as we can. We don't want guilds being massive just for the sake of getting as much XP and leveling as fast as they can. We're not saying that large guilds can't gain XP a little faster but it's not something that has a massive advantage."

Although they've spoken about the guilds earlier, they were still keen to reveal more on the matter: "Guilds are critical to the overall success that a player can achieve in the game. There are couple of high-level goals that Mark gave us when we started on the game - one; the guilds can't just be a static thing or an extra chat channel and a roster used to keep track of the only 50 people in the game you ever talk to. Guilds have to be organic, they need to be a vibrant, living part of the world, which is why we call them, quite simply, The Living Guilds. From the moment you form your guild, everything that you do in the world helps you to push your guild towards greater and greater success. So in the same way that a player can level up in the world, guilds will level up over time as well. Everything that you're doing -- questing, PQs, RvR, crafting - also helps your guild to advance and as your guild advances you'll unlock really interesting things like our Guild Banner System, which we've talked about in our podcast this month. It's not just a flag that you can wave around and go 'look at our pretty flag.' It's an actual system. It's a tool that's available to you in the battlefield, where a standard bearer can actually go out and plant it in the ground, and it can throw off a sort of a pulsing, AoE (Area of Effect) moral buff."

Many times, the developers kept referring to the game's official web site for more details on this. The same reference was given for people who want more information about lore. They also kept saying that is would be really cool if people bought the Collector's Edition of Warhammer Online, where tons and tons of lore info will be available. The newsletter is also a good way to get into the spirit of the characters, races, etc.
