File Synopsis

The gameplay is Absolute Terror sees the player piloting the first prototype Katana class ship, designed to strike back at the colonial forces. As well as being extremely capable in straight combat, the Katana-01 features a unique drive system that enables it to rearrange molecules at an atomic level, and therefore construct structures and devices based on atomic "template" files stored in the ship's computer. This allows the pilot to deploy a range of offensive and defensive equipment to secure key areas of the combat zone and assist in attacking the enemy. The player is assisted by their co-pilot, Natsuki, who provides information on missions, equipment and "helpful" advice.

Absolute Terror is based on our own custom graphics engine which runs on top of the industry standard OpenGL libraries. AT requires a 3D accelerator to run, and works on any card that supports OpenGL 1.1, including the popular NVidia Riva TNT cards and 3DFX Voodoo cards. The engine's features include:

  • Fully dynamic lighting, with both ambient world lighting and a virtually unlimited number of local light sources
  • Dynamic shadows that can be cast both from ambient directional lighting and point light sources
  • Reflection effects
  • Dynamic texturing
  • Both per-vertex lighting and lightmaps
  • Multipass terrain rendering for detail, cloud shadows and suchlike
  • Particle effects
  • Environment mapping
  • Deformable meshes.
