| » All About Mad Trax on ActionTrip | |
MadTrax is a futuristic racing combat game. Hundreds of storylines can be though up, but no one really cares. Physics, car handling, layout of the tracks, number of tracks, opponent AI and difficulty levels are important. A storyline is not. Rest assures thought that there will be an intro to set the scene for the game, as well as a splendid outro for those who complete the game. Due to the quality of the Voodoo 2-based graphics, these cut scenes will be in real time.
MadTrax is going to be a native Voodoo 2 game, but the Voodoo 1 version will still be mindblowing as well. As for the game's engine, MadTrax' programmers were heavily inspired by a rather famous '80s stunt car racing game. This means that the basic core of the game will be a highly realistic physics model. Unlike most futuristic games, therefore, cars will resemble their present-time counterparts in terms of handling and physics. They will however have all the other characteristics of future racing cars: a vast array of cleverly-designed weapons and some out-of-this-world car and texture design. The game will focus on driving a futuristic stunt car across some very diverse tracks packed with stunt car characteristics (jumps, ramps, ridges, etc.) with weapons thrown in for good measure. All weapons will add to the gameplay, not ruin the racing aspect. In total, there will be 10 tracks, but with mirroring and shortcutting of the tracks there will be 17. Also, bonus weapons, bonus tracks and bonus cars will further add to the longevity of the game. Standard game options include Training, Tournament and Time Trial plus some more original ones (Arena, Rodeo).
One of the first native Voodoo 2-based games, with full support from 3Dfx, MadTrax is going to be STUNNING. With approximately 17 tracks, 6 different categories of weapons, some 10 different cars, arcade-style game options and sim-style car physics, MadTrax could well please a lot of different fans of racing games when it is released.
