Wetrix is a video game, a puzzle game, originally developed in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 console and Windows95 based PC by Zed Two Game Design Studio.
The game is a simple, single screen game, which involves positioning pieces as they fall onto a square landscape to form dams and lakes to collect falling water which flows around the landscape.
The game can go on indefinately and the idea is to earn the highest score possible by maximising the use of various bonuses and evaporating water at the right time.
The player controls randomly shaped pieces which fall one at a time onto a diamond shaped landscape. Some of these pieces raise the height of this landscape where they fall and other pieces lower the land. Water bubbles also fall which break open on impact, releasing water which flows dynamically across the landscape.
The player must create walls and dams to trap the water before it falls over the edge, where it will be collected in the Drain. Once the Drain is full the game is over. There are also falling fireballs which evaporate any water they land in, earning points and reducing the drain, and bombs which blow holes in the landscape, creating new areas for the player to lose water to the drain.
On top of this there are falling ice cubes which freeze lakes, rubber duckys which double the points earned for deep lakes, rainbow multipliers which ramp up all scores if there is enough water in the world, and mines which make it very dangerous to evaporate a lake...
These are just the basic features. Together these combine to produce a mind numbing variety of gameplay possibilities and with extra game modes such as Wetrix Classic, Wetrix Pro, Handicap modes, Challenge modes, Multiplayer modes as well as Practice and lesson modes the variations are endless.
