Alan Wake Sales Slightly Disappointing

MSBOX World has the word that Remedy Entertainment's recently released action adventure, Alan Wake, didn't do too well sales wise. The Xbox 360 exclusive from MS and Remedy managed to shift 88,177 units, which is considerably less than other platform-exclusive games that hit the market within the past few months.
For example, PS3-only God of War III sold approximately 405,421 units in just one day across Europe. Even though Alan Wake is a brand new IP that has yet to garner its own community (and well all know GoW has been around for some time), this is still a huge difference. Furthermore, another PS3-only game Heavy Rain (now that's a completely new IP as well) shifted 272,703 units throughout Europe in just a few days on sale.
The game received a relatively decent average score from reviewers worldwide.
We liked it. But we certainly felt it could've brought more to the table after such a long development cycle.

If Microsoft doesn't take Remedy under its wing, the studio might not be around anymore by this time next year.
If anything, missing out on PS3 sales is the much bigger blow.
2) $60 8 hour games are getting old.
3) stupid to buy retail when you can rent for a fraction and get the full experience.
glad it 'bombed' for them.
They will be GLAD to release PC version in few months just to get some more money out of it, idiots.
Heard of Red Dead Redemption? Yeah, it released in the same week. A Rockstar game. I don't know why MS chose to release the game in the same week as RDR. They thought could they take them on with their 10hr little game? RIGHT.
Slightly disappointing, though. Maybe it will be a sleeper hit over the years? I hope they make Alan Wake 2. It was a decent game and it can be made a classic if things are improved.
A 15-20 hour experience would have raised the average review score 5-10 points, and being multi-platform could have possibly enabled it to hit the 150k mark by this point.
But you make an excellent point about RDR.
Besides that, the devs are still charging $60 for games. Some gamers have lost their jobs, and many gamers who still have jobs are getting less money. They can't expect us to pay $60 for an 8 hour game. If they would drop the price to $40, I'm sure sales would go up a lot.
1) It's sourced from VGChartz, a notoriously unreliable source of information that relies largely on estimates. Chart Track showed that it topped the UK charts, beating FIFA World Cup 2010, Lost Planet 2, and other high profile releases. I'll wait for info from NPD and other sources before judging its sales.
2) The chart dates range from May 9 to May 15. Alan Wake was released on May 14, and managed to beat every other game for the week.
3) Mid years sales are notoriously slow. Even according to VGChartz, Infamous, a new IP and PS3 exclusive, only sold 80,285 units on its May 29 launch, and yet later broke 1 million in sales. I don't see that game getting bashed because of it.
