And Now Something About Borderlands 3

Gearbox Software didn't even wait for the dust to settle after the launch of Borderlands 2 and are already talking about the third installment in the popular FPS/RPG series. The news arrived to counter unconfirmed reports that Gearbox won't be making a third addition to the well-known series.

Lead writer Anthony Burch mentioned Borderlands 3 and how the development studio is experimenting with several ideas for the project right now.

Here's an idea for Borderlands 3, guys. How about a storyline where something actually happens?

I really have no problems with its storyline. And Handsome Jack was the best character in a game in a long time. Lovable, funny, sarcastic, deceiving, rememberalbe, and I could go on and on and on. I won't. But I could...

Witty!!! I forgot to mention witty.

It takes too fucking long for the whole thing to get going and when it gets going it just doesn't get going.

Story had no bearing at all on a game like this. Sure, it's nice, but it's the same thing with Diablo 3. Unlike Diablo 3, the game is actually FUN to keep playing after you beat it.

PS The story was a HELL of a lot better than the 1st but even then, the 1st game's story was alright. The DLC was a lot better (Knoxx and Robolution being good and Moxxi's Underdone being something interesting, but Zombie was meh).
Vader: Since when is Diablo 3, not fun?
Reikhardt: Sometime around lvl 12 onwards?
finaleve: Something like that. I really got bored of the game …

I look forward to it. If they truly listen to people, maybe their writing team can pick up some notes and do research into knowing what captures and maintains a gamers attention.

They need a mother-fucking Stephen King of game writing, I guess.

They should simply jettison even the *idea* of a storyline; just plop the player down on Pandora and have them wander, open-world-like (like the Elder Scrolls games) and just adventure/level/explore until our hearts pop.

They can maintain the lovable/crazy characters & great writing without having to weigh it all down with feeble attempts at an over-arcing story.

Other nominees for weak/non-existent/dopey story (in no particular order):

- Diablo 3
- Starcraft 2 (should have been as gripping as Starcraft 1)
- Crysis 2
- Crysis 1 (and I LOVE this game!)
- Sniper Elite V2
