Assassin's Creed II Makes Guinness World Record
Assassin's Creed II officially holds the Gamer’s Edition Guinness World Record for being the most cover-featured video game. Why oh why am I not surprised? Assassin’s Creed II has been used as a lead cover story on 127 different publications in 32 countries, between April 2009 and April 2010, according to the accolade.

“Assassin’s Creed is one of our most well-loved brands,” said Alain Corre, managing director EMEA at Ubisoft. “The worldwide interest for the brand, coupled with the energy and creativity of our press team made for a winning combination and Ubisoft is proud to receive this Guinness World Record.”

Gaz Deaves, Editor of Guinness World Records Gamer’s, said: “The evidence submitted by Ubisoft was extremely thorough, with full details of every publication that featured the game. It’s been a pleasure researching this category and we were pleasantly surprised that Assassin’s Creed II took the record – I’m sure plenty of commentators (including myself) would have predicted another well-known game winning the title instead, and this achievement is even more impressive in view of the other 2009 releases that Assassin’s Creed II was able to beat."

I'm out of touch a bit...

What would you have predicted to be the most cover featured video game?
I don't read gaming magazines so I don't know.
I wonder if those features had anything to do with their DRM.

90% of them were about how the new DRM sucked ass, and how it pissed off gamers globally, and that it was a step in the wrong direction, because the pirates would get it anyway and without all that DRM shit, but the rest of the gamers would pass on having to pass through a bunch of hoops just to play the game

I doubt there were many significant publications that bothered to run AC2 as a cover story by the time the game was released for the PC in March, maybe none at all. You can count on one hand the number of notable PC-only gaming magazines still in existence. Other major mags like GameInformer were way past caring about AC2 by March 2010.

AC2 was all over covers leading up to its release on the consoles, back in '09. Ubi's new DRM wasn't even out then, and iirc, not even fully known to the public yet as to its nature.

AS1 sold some 8million copies and it was pirated right away. That one hell of a profit.
They should be so lucky with these 2nd one. The DRM will hurt them and hopefully they'll think twice about using it again.
Cheddar: AS2 has already sold MORE than 8 million copies. That was th...

im curious about AC2.

interesting fact: i have come to find out girls liked Asscreed more than boys.
moriwenne [mail] Apr 15 2010, 09:51 am EDT
I seriously doubt that AS has more girl fans than boys Voodoo. It's not a feminine product like say "anything WII" (freaking stupid console ^^).

They probably like ass creed for the same reason they like football - cute guys in shorts running all over the grass.

If there would be women in AT I would ask whether they find Ezio hot.
But look 'ere:
He's italian, athletic, dresses flamboyantly and goes all over Venice - the city that almost every female covets to visit...

So my conclusion is... next AC will be set in Paris.
optimus slime: that would be fabulous!
Vodoo: :)))

Ubisoft should also get the record for worst DRM in a game! Yes, I'm still pissed off about this!
Cheddar [mail] Apr 15 2010, 03:12 pm EDT
That distinction still belongs to Starforce. It actually broke computers.

A guinness world record and i'm still not interested remotely in this game. Only lasted an hour into the first one before i fell asleep on my keyboard. Really not my thing.

Loved AC and was all set to buy AC2 til I learnt about the DRM, maybe they just came up with some whacked out idea to see how many gamers they could piss off. So consequently I downloaded and am playin using the server emulator and latest db values, works like a fuckin charm ... Soooo F U ubisoft, I'm not buying anymore of your shit til you stop with the craziness !! Peace Out.
