CoD Franchise Exceeds $3 Billion

Modern Warfare 2 helped push Activision's Call of Duty franchise through the $3 billion revenues mark, the publisher announced recently (thanks GI). The six titles in the series sold over 55 million units, with the latest installment earning $550 million in its first five days on sale.

The estimates come from NPD and GfK Chart-Track. Activision Blizzard CEO Robert Kotick labels this as one of the "greatest entertainment franchises of all time."

"If you consider the number of hours our audiences are engaged in playing Call of Duty games, it is likely to be one of the most viewed of all entertainment experiences in modern history," he added.

Terrific. Now we can all sleep easy, knowing that the CoD franchise sold squillions and squillions.

Sims with all it's crap sold in more than 100 million copies but it means nothing, except that too many people play with virtual dollies.
Jedrus: Well, come to think of it, I'd rather play Sims.
Hivetyrant: At least the Sims campaign lasts more than 3 hours

Meh all the data they got due to all new technologies sure seens a lot but honestly, if you think about the sheer amount of people playing games nowadays, im rather sure the game is just in the average level.

Whats next, measuring how many farts happen a day in the whole world due to diferent kinds of foods then calculate now many years in a row of a fart it would be, each day for each food then going "we are happy to announce we are among the most flatulence food producing foodchains?
Im glad that they have success and they manage to do fuckloads of games, if that will mean better quality and longer games in the future, all the best, but it annoys me the constant yapping about it :D

Its like gay parade, i have nothing against gay people, hell i have gay friends and they are free to do w/e they want aslong it doesnt harm anyway, but the parade is just... "wtf" we dont care, we dont want to know how gay you are, just be gay and stfu.
Whats next? straight parades? "YES IM STRAIGHT AND IM PROUD OF IT"... geez...

Never bought a CoD game ever. I have CoD4 but i borrowed my cousins and never returned it. I'm going to skip CoDMW2 simply because its only focus is online multiplayer. Games like that shouldn't be allowed. I disliked CoD4 because the DLC maps can't be played in local multiplayer, which is what I mainly love to play (because I have friends and most games today like to establish that EVERYONE DOESN'T). Single player games are nice, and its especially more awesome when you can have other people join in on the fun (Borderlands for example) in the single player experience.

But when you pump out a game that might be over the top but SHORT, and pretty much make the same cut multiplayer as the last, and charge the same 60 bucks for the same game? At this point I'll pass.
  Jedrus: Good point, indeed.
Stick!: You must fail at xboxing or something. I could play the DLC...
