Deus Ex Movie Gets Director And Writer

Today CBS Films revealed today that Scott Derrickson (Sinister, The Exorcism of Emily Rose) is all set to direct a big screen version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Reportedly, Derrickson is going to pen the script for the movie with C. Robert Cargill (Sinister).

Here's a bit more info:

"Set in the near future, when dramatic advances in science, specifically human augmentation, have triggered a technological renaissance, Deus Ex: Human Revolution follows Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT security specialist who must embrace mechanical augments in order to unravel a global conspiracy."

Okay, folks, now let us pray that they don't screw this one up.

Incidentally, in recent news, movies based on Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell are also on the way.

Deus Ex? That game was a drag. Lets hope the movie is nothing like the game

I strongly agree if you are talking about the 3rd installment.

Deus Ex Human Revolution is an amazing game and of course the movie will be nothing like it, not even close. Some shit put in 1.5 hours of some mere resemblance of Deus Ex, something like that.

It will be entertaining that's all I need. A movie can never be like a book or game. You always have to adapt and change it.

Human Revolution is excellent game. Too bad they will make a crappy movie about it.

I haven't had this much hope in an film adaptation since Marvel hired Joss Whedon for Avengers. The script writer is better known in movie geek circles as Massawyrm at aintitcool. This is not a cash in situation. If anyone can adapt Deus Ex for film it's Massawyrm. He gets it. This is his big shot and if he blows it, he doesn't just blow the movie, he blows a decade of geek cred. I think the big question about this movie is the budget. If it gets even half the budget of say, the shitty Total Recall remake, then in the hands of a frugal director, this movie can be awesome.
