Diablo III’s auction house caused all sorts of upset for players when it launched last year. With the upcoming Reaper of Souls expansion players who are hoping for some sort of magic bullet to fix the issue and also finally add an offline mode like the console versions got, might end up being disappointed.
In an article on Eurogamer, Blizzard’s Josh Mosqueria and Kevin Martens discuss the challenges they face in finding a fix for the auction house versus getting drunk instead: "The logical conclusion of removing the Auction House might include a version of Diablo where there is zero trading, because that would be the only way we could guarantee that no-one's going to want to hack your account to get at your items. "It keeps me up at night sometimes," Josh says, flatly. "But beer's good."
The article includes the team’s reasons for keeping the auction house in for the player’s protection (!?) and likens the whole process to Obamacare. I can’t make this stuff up. Go get it a read if you still have any interest in this train wreck.
