Double Fine's Broken Age in Trouble

Double Fine Production's project Broken Age, funded via Kickstarter, is, apparently, not funded well enough and now the game development studio may be required to split the game into two parts.

Here's the word:

In a lengthy and honest message to backers sent earlier today, Double Fine boss Tim Schafer explains that, basically, he designed too much game. And that for the title - now known as Broken Age - to be finished, it's going to need more money.

It's worth noting that the project originally asked for a mere $400,000 in funding.

I don't understand how a project estimated to cost $400,000 blows away $3 million... what were the people who got all this money REALLY doing with that cash?
