Game of the Year 2012 - People's Choice
Think carefully before casting your votes, folks. Yes, it's time to pick the best title of the year 2012.

There are 40 games up there and I'm sure you've had a chance to try most of them.

Naturally, there are a lot of titles that didn't make it into the poll, for several reasons. One of the main reasons, of course, is the fact that they're pure crap (think Ninja Gaiden 3, which didn't make it into the poll, because it never before has a game so effectively screwed with its own legacy). Other games were included simply because of the popularity of the franchise (the new Medal of Honor game, for instance, even though, by rights, that one should be tossed into bargain bin of oblivion).

Without much further ado, here are the games of 2012:

Game of the Year 2012 - People's Choice:

  • Far Cry 3
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

for me it's a battle between Torchlight 2, XCOM, Legend of Grimrock, Mark of the Ninja and FTL.

the reasoning behind is thus: these games managed not only to break through scepticism but also managed to be fun beyond a single playthrough even weeks or months later.

haven't played much this year, but playing xcom felt strangely good... acceptable graphics, fun gameplay, lovely tactical... too short, though.

Keeping in mind the gameplay, Assassins creed 3 hands down but the story end was such a dissapointment. So,

Holly Shit man! I went from top to the bottom of the list and I realized that I haven't played not even one of these games. I need to find a way to retire in the next couple of years so I can resume my gaming career :)

Well, anyway I voted for FIFA13 because it's the same fucking game in the last 20 years so at least I know what I'm voting for...Vader you should put some neutral option up there for sad fucks like me.

XCOM was good and kept me in front of the PC...for a while. But no way it deserves to be GOTY.

SWTOR!! Oh it was last yr! Then the only other game, which I hate to love, is ME3! It is an amazing adventure, even though it had the most shittiest endings, still awesome experience!
adeel_fastian: Mass effect 3 the best, no doubt

Okay, so:

- Torchlight 2 (very handily) blew away my sadness from Diablo 3,
- Far Cry 3 is exceeding all my expectations (and making me realize I finally need to upgrade my GPU)
- XCom has brought me kicking, screaming and SMILING back into the fold of turn-based strategy,
- Dishonored really took me by (pleasant!) surprise, and
- Borderlands 2 is an ongoing BLAST, but

Really? The Walking Dead is the only game that moved me to tears, multiple times throughout its "episodes". It's more than a game - it is truly an experience to be savored and remembered.

It should, at the very least, garner Game of the Year.

DayZ should be on this list!
scarecrow01: No, it shouldn't, its a mod not a game (and even then…

I also haven't had the chance to play most of these, I've only played two games on the entire list.
Reikhardt Dec 06 2012, 01:19 pm EST
Walking Dead or Borderlands 2 for me. Dishonored was a great game but didn't quite nail for game of the year for me.
Ass Creed 3 was a pile of console shit.
Terminator Dec 06 2012, 01:32 pm EST
Dishonored gets my vote.
Whisky Dec 06 2012, 02:05 pm EST
BORDERLANDS 2 crushes them all! So says Handsome Jack!
ashmasters Dec 06 2012, 04:26 pm EST
Hitman !!!
Marku5K Dec 06 2012, 06:18 pm EST
Far Cry 3 cause it's fucking fun, thats why!
Duffey Dec 07 2012, 12:48 am EST
Have to go with Borderlands 2. The characters came off great and story was interesting atleast and the gameplay is awesome. Borderlands 2 most memorable in my book. Though I think alot of people simply are liking the game they last played I mean assassins creed was only released a month ago.
Vader [STAFF] Dec 07 2012, 01:03 am EST
Far Cry 3 is fun. Although I'm really amazed it's in the lead right now...
GrgoljBlaster Dec 07 2012, 03:40 am EST
Wanted to vote for Alan Wake PC but since not on the list voted for FTL (and because I didn't see Grimrock when I skimmed through the list). Other games will get more than enough votes anyway.
shaneh39199 Dec 07 2012, 05:28 am EST
walking dead.

because not every game has to be about loot-exp-guns

More story's deserve what telltale did for the walking dead. Hope they made butt-loads of money off of it

EDIT: right after voting FC3 is at the top. seriously? this game just came out.JUST came out. you people need to quit dick riding.sit back and really think (even if im not playing the game anymore) which one really deserves GOTY. sorry but FC3 just flipping came out. it hasent earned shit aside from a few patches.

Mass Effect 3 for me. Magnificent finale to magnificent series.
adeel_fastian Dec 12 2012, 12:38 am EST
Mass Effect 3 all the way. Perfect game in every dept. People didn't understand the ending, it was about indoctrination.
