Half-Life 3, HL2: Ep. Three or Something?

After Valve's cancellation of their Portal 2 E3 presentation, the well-known development studio hinted a mysterious announcement for the show via a weird e-mail. Word reached us that there's a rather official-looking teaser plaque, which may hold the answer to Vavle's riddle.

There's an image showing the recognizable Half-life logo. There's also a text which reads: "Freeman, June 14th." The important thing is that this date corresponds to the developer's now canceled Portal 2 E3 press conference (thanks, CVG).

Whether this is the much rumored announcement of Half-life 2: Episode Three, Half-life 3 or indeed something else, remains to be seen.

Be patient... if you can.

Of course is news about Half life Episode 3.

It can't be HL3 since episode 3 is not out yet and it can't be something else, because that's the Half Life logo !

Someone found out that the picture author is him: http://twitter.com/godfree (or at least that he made it available online) so it's most likely fake image, but still... it's a perfectly logical promo - lambda, Freeman, E3 date and Gman's face faded into black background. If someone's pulling our leg (or any other limb) here, then he is really up to the task and has way too much spare time.

Props to HL3 instead of Episode 3. In a way, I feel that if it is Ep3, it will not be a major....release type of game?

We already have Half Life 3 people, sort of anyways, as that's what the episodes are. Valve stated it way back when they were doing episode 1 that the episodes were what they considered to be Half Life 3, since they didn't like the 5 year development that we saw between HL1 and HL2. So they broke HL3 up into episodes to get it to us faster, and now, 5 years later, it looks like nothing has changed >.>. However it seems like no one remembers that and if they skipped from HL2 to HL4 people would just say WTF. So whatever, no one cares anyways I imagine.

Just give us episode 3 Valve, as I imagine it will be the end of the series and I'm ok with that. As much as I loved HL2, I'm tired of waiting for a for a franchise I think Valve is loosing interest in. So hurry up and finish it Valve. That we can get a real ending before you stop making story based games all together.

I don't think it'll be a new IP. With Portal, TF2, and L4D, all in recent years, Valve has created enough new IPs lately. Not to mention that it doesn't seem like Valve would bother being this mysterious over a completely new franchise.

Honestly, I ALMOST DON'T WANT TO ADMIT THIS, because I don't want to hold my breath waiting for something that won't happen and then be disappointed, but...

Logically, if this isn't about Portal, then all signs point to the E3 surprise being something that goes back directly to the Half-Life story arc. And, of course, Ep3/HL3 would be the most obvious possibility for that.
