Hideo Kojima told IG (a gaming mag in France) that Solid Snake is going to return in a new Metal Gear Solid game. Here's what he had to say:
"About Metal Gear Solid 5, I can tell you two things. There will be much question of infiltration, espionage, and convincing people to give you 'a favour' like in the last Metal Gear Solid."
"I liked the idea of social interactions in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but we will see. And if I say more, the female ninja public relations officer, who is behind the door, I will be carved up into pieces. So it's better that we meet again when the time comes to talk about Metal Gear Solid 5."
He also explained that MGS 5 is going to use the new FOX Engine.

Snake has never once in any MGS game been a fucking spy. A one-man-army commando, yes. A spy engaging in actual espionage, no. There's a difference there, Hideo.
Still, the stories seemed pretty dumb. I don't think "conversation" is one of Hideo's strong suits when it comes to writing. Unless he was going for corny, then he's brilliant at creating b-flick quality dialogue.
