Mass Effect 2 PS3 Dated

IGN has the scoop that the PlayStation 3 edition of Mass Effect 2, BioWare's RPG-flavored space saga, got a rock-solid release date. You can expect to dive into the sci-fi adventure on the PS3 starting January 18, 2011 in the United States and January 21, 2011 in Europe.

Bear in mind, that the original Mass Effect game is going to stay exclusive to Microsoft's Xbox 360. EA and BioWare will be releasing an interactive comic with the PS3 copies of the game to bridge the stories. Players will be able to make choices in the comic and those choices will build up to the beginning of the Mass Effect 2 playthrough.

The PS3 edition of Mass Effect 2 contains the already released 360 DLC Lair of the Shadow Broker, Project Overlord, Kasumi: Stolen Memory and the Blood Dragon Armor on the Blu-ray disc.

oh yeah, thats fair.
charge the 360 owners for the DLC while the PS3 owners get it for free with their game. i really really really really hate DLC, developers nowadays just sell 2/3 of a game in the box, and release the rest as DLC and charge extra for it
Juxtapose: DLC does suck, no argument there, but won't the PlayStation ...
Tastysanchez: 1. Its microsoft that forces DLC to be charged not the devel...

So does that mean they'll need to make more DLC to nickel-and-dime the PS3 version owners?

Why bother porting ME2 to the PS3, when ME1 remains on the 360/PC? Mass Effect 1 is FIVE TIMES better than Mass Effect 2, but it remains a Microsoft Exclusive. Of course, EA is greedy as fuck, so they will port ME2 and hope gamers buy it. I sure hope those PS3 owners got to play Mass Effect 1 on the PC or 360.

Mass Effect 2 is an empty shell compared to Mass Effect 1. I really hope Bioware makes Mass Effect 3 like Mass Effect 1.
Cheddar: 5 times better? Termi, most people would disagree with you. ...
Tastysanchez: +1 for Cheddar. ME2 ate ME1 for breakfast. Why do I want to ...
jokester: As far as story goes ME1 was, I feel, better. Gameplay mech...
Terminator: Sheesh, am I the ONLY one who likes playing with inventory?

This is good. I'm always going to support an exclusive going non-exclusive.

Although it should have happened when the game was first fucking released, of course.

I'm bemused that some of you are whining about this. What's your problem? This, in and of itself, doesn't make EA or BioWare greedy. Accessing previously unaccessed markets is just good business.

EXCLUSIVES are the true examples of selling-out, because those only happen because MS or Sony pays off the developer/publisher to do so.

A true artist wants to make his or her creation as accessible as possible.

Read jules' comment, how's it fair to charge one group of people for stuff - pricey stuff - that should've/could've been rolled into the original release?
Tastysanchez [mail] Dec 10 2010, 08:01 pm EST
@ Toodrunktofunk Read my reply on how that's a dumb shit argument.

How can they roll out DLC into the original xbox release when the DLC hadn't even been made yet? Bioware arent fucking time wizards.

Or would you rather wait another 8 months to play ME2 over 3 DVD's? DLC thanks.

Oh and angry because they charge you money for their work? Sorry bud, ME2 was fucking expensive to make because it is a top quality title. If you want free DLC get the work experience kid to make it. I'ld rather pay and have an experienced developer make my DLC.

Why do so many gamers have such a hard time understanding the basics of commerce. Aka someone sells a product to make money. Not gives away free products and collects money from their magical money tree at the end of the day.

Rant. over.
Sleek [mail] Dec 10 2010, 08:52 pm EST
Because the ps3 version will be released at the full price of a game, while the 360 will remain the lower price that it is.

Therefore, they are paying for the DLCs.
