Mirror's Edge 2 in the Works

Thank the gaming Gods! I don't care if it's not an official announcement or anything concrete about Mirror's Edge 2, it's still news about Mirror's Edge 2 and that's good enough for me. Anyway, the scoop is that the sequel to the somewhat underrated parkour-themed action game, Mirror's Edge, is finally in development.

In a response to several comments, EA Games VP Patrick Soderlund wrote on Twitter: "It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE."

Now, let's not jinx this one shall we. Let's make this work. Please, EA have mercy.

They're going to turn it into a free-to-play MMOG or something... I just know it.

Thanks to Frostbite-technology you will not only have to gauge elevation and distance of jumps but you must also be wary of sun-glares.

If they get anyone besides Solar Fields to do the soundtrack, it ain't worth a damn.

So I didn't care for the first one so why should I care for the sequel. Kinda reminds me of an article I read called I hate what you love on destructoid.

If you liked the first game then good. Just remember you will get more of the same with more dlc and origin will of course be required.

I loved the first one, so bring it on.

It's been talked about so many times, even by EA CEO's its hard to imagine they weren't making one. Hopefully they don't rush it out the door to make quicker $$$.

DICE is one of the most purely talented studios in the industry. I have great confidence the sequel will meet the first game's standard, and then raise the bar even higher. Probably much higher.

The first game was effectively the prototype of a new sort of genre. So it's logical to expect the second game will be an even more fully realized vision.
  Breedy_Mcfluff: Doubt it.

It has the potential to be something great. The first was good though it felt short. The level designs need to have more flow to them. They need to make gunplay more interesting but harder to actually obtain.

I mean, the entire point of the game is supposed to be about constant motion, right?

Rationally, one has to appreciate the accomplishment the first Mirror's Edge game represents, considering how utterly untested and unprecedented it was as a gameplay experience.

That the game -- which, practically speaking, was really just an experiment in its relative infancy -- still managed to be so entertaining bodes very well for the sequel.

Considering DICE's proven ability as a developer, it's a sound assumption that they've now thought up myriad ways to improve and build upon the first game's prototypical experience.

Hated the first one. Could not get the hang of it. Bought used then traded away... EA made no money on my watch.

Look, it wasn't perfect, I'll give you that much. But it was a brave effort. It was different, the atmosphere was unique. It deserves a second chance. The reason why the industry is so crammed with generic shooters and similar crap is exactly this - because developers and publishers are afraid to experiment.

And that's what Mirror's Edge was. An experiment. Even though it wasn't exactly a successful one.

I don't understand what people have to complain about Mirror's Edge. I guess game industry is based on the childrens psychology that like to see the same cartoon over and over again. Same crap reloaded.
The only sequels I played in years are STALKER Call of Pripiath, Portal 2 and Witcher.
You don't understand Mirror's Edge. I don't understand why would anyone wanna play another MW or Assassin's Creed.
That's why this industry got so lame. This and fuckin' consoles.
