Mirror's Edge 2 to Utilize Frostbite 2 Engine

Okay, I presume, you've all seen the previous news post and the kick-ass Battlefield 3 gameplay footage. If you have, then you also have a pretty good idea of what DICE's Frostbite 2 engine is capable of. Apparently EA means to employ the technology for the (oh-so-anticipated-by-us) Mirror's Edge sequel.

"We haven't killed Mirror's Edge, we're actively looking at how to bring it back in the right way," said EA Games Label boss Frank Gibeau to GT.

"We love that franchise, the DICE guys really created something special the first time round and you've got to have a big idea to be able to do the next one and that's what we're working on."

The thought of Mirror's Edge 2 brings a nice smile to my face. A smile and a pinch of hope for gaming. The folks at DICE who were involved with the creation of Mirror's Edge may not have come up with a perfect game, but they sure as hell had the guts to experiment, which is something many developers lack these days - a big set of balls, actually.

Great news!! Just hope they're sticking with the 1st person view. Making it 3rd person, they might aswell call it something different and not associate it with the original at all.

that part of "bring it back the right way" makes me fear for mirror's edge.... since that's coming from EA

I loved Mirror's Edge the way it was. I just wanted a sequel. What's this " bring it back in the right way"?

Time for a replay. I hope they add more world detail and off-track areas. It was great game.

TBH I think it will be hard to screw this one up.

What makes the game? First person free running, pulling off cool jumps and such which produce adrenaline. They'll obviously going to be in the sequel.

Everything else about the game - the story, the single path to get anywhere, the music etc. aren't all bad, but I can live without them.

How could they even screw it up? Make it more of a fps?
  touretul: yep!

Not interested in this game and over 60% of all the games shown at E3.

The music and sound effects of this game was Fanstastic by gaming standards. Still love the Lisa Miskovsky track (and its various remixes). The texture work on the U3 engine was one of the best in any games and PhysX was implemented in just the right amounts.

These are beside the main attraction of the game, innovative Parkour themed First person action.

Loved the first and am glad they still have hopes for it. Frostbite 2 looks awesome.
