I'm sure most of you haven't missed the news that Peter Jackson will be making The Hobbit into a movie trilogy, as opposed to filming just two movies as initially intended. Now, I'm not entirely sure if this is a good idea. When they made The Lord of the Rings there was plenty of source material to draw from and with The Hobbit, it's just like one book and that's it. Of course, they can grab something out of LotR and The Silmarillion and use that in the movie if they want, but all in all, it seems a bit too much to stretch 'The Hobbit' into three bloody movies.
I dunno.
What do you guys think?
UPDATE: Here's the P.J.'s announcement.

Really can't see how they'll stretch this out to two films let alone three.

And deciding to make a third movie isn't necessarily a money making move.
Three movies require three climaxes.
The Hobbit as a story ONLY HAS ONE CLIMAX.
So how exactly are the first two movies going to avoid being slow and padded, and dissatisfying at the end? They're basically going to be forced to embellish lesser scenes in the book in an attempt to pass them off as suitable climax scenes for the first two movies... and it's not really going to work.
Jackson can draw from Tolkien's appendices to pad the content, but a good movie needs a good crescendo, and the fluff that comes from Tolkien's appendices just won't provide that.
Jackson doesn't have the rights to use Silmarillion and Tolkein's estate is unlikely to sell them to him since they didn't like his LotR adaptation.
Stop ur bitchin'!! Its Peter Jackson, it'll be fine! :)
The Hobbit has around 300 pages. You can do 2 trilogies and a 60 x 1h episode TV SHOW.
to be honest, i've never counted but there has to be at least a dozen shows and movies about menstruating vampires and werewolves in hair salons.
christ, just thinking about it makes me want to shave my jugular.
"I have the answer for those of you who say," why is one book being made into three movies, when the Lord of the Rings was 3 books and only 3 movies long". Many people don't understand how the movies came to be to begin with.... New Line Cinema took a huge gamble from the beginning when choosing to film The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. They took a gamble and gave director Peter Jackson a couple hundred million and said go make us three films. Peter Jackson filmed all 3 of the LOTR movies at one time. Then from there New Line Cinemas crossed there fingers and hoped that they would do good at the box office. The gamble surely paid off! To put a long story short, if New Line Cinemas had only of known in advance that the LOTR Trilogy was going to rake in the money that it did, im sure that each of the Lord of the Rings books would have been made into 3 movies each :) and I would have paid to go see every single one of them!"
C'mon, three movies involving gay Hobbitos???
It's going to be beautiful, visually,
And yet so boring I'll risk the ban and light a joint in the movie theater just to pass the time .
They could have made LOTR into 9 movies easily or better still it could have been like A Song of Ice and Fire (aka Game of Thrones) and made 10 episodes per book.
