Filed under: WORLD WAR Z, ZOMBIES
Don't forget, there's nothing more exhilarating than watching a poorly animated wall of mindless zombies tipping over a bus or scaling a massive wall. At least that's what Hollywood seems to think. Fucking Danny Boyle wannabes. A zombie movie? Shit! Heaven forfend that they should put half of such an effort into writing a reasonably believable or even remotely interesting story.

i don't get the fascination with zombies. walking dead seems to be a decent show but that's the only zombie thing that had me even mildly interested.
SilentShadow Nov 20 2012, 03:50 am EST
Zombies again? It began kinda promising but why zombies again? xD Also, what is the fascination with the reaper sound nowadays. In every trailer or movie, you here that sound like the reapers are coming, or did mass Effect steal that sound from something else too?

Why zombies again? Because the concept of them is terrifying and the leap of faith required for them is not so much as other 'monsters' (eg: vampires that are immortal & sunlight burn etc).

While World War Z looks interesting, it looks like its unfortunately gone down the same Hollywood route as "I Am Legend" where it feels the need to make the creatures super fast, which instantly seems to make them less realistic. They should have been shamblers, or at worse slow runners. These super agile ninja zombies seem a step too far.

Anyway, here's hoping it's otherwise good!

When the zombie apocalypse arrives - I'm shooting everyone.
Living or dead, I'm gonna shoot everything I see

I say we take all the vampires and aaaaaall the zombies and all the aliens, put them in a big hole underground and just test nuke this mother fuckers to oblivion. Enough with this shit. Zombies were a cute idea 30 years ago.

A zombie apocalypse ain't even scary for fuck's sake. Life as we live it now, that's fucking is scary. Humans are way scarier than zombies.

A zombie, a werewolf, an alien and a vampire, all together couldn't do what humans do to each other, both physically and mentally.

Morning,

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz zombies.
Morkrul Nov 20 2012, 04:46 am EST
it's not like zombies haven't been around, only lately they've been more "massed by the media" (i mean, even history channel having a program about zombies?)
don't critic the monster, critic those fuckers who want to milk them dry

So it'l like 28 days/weeks latter with a bigger budget and Brad Pitt.

"Heaven forfend that they should put half of such an effort into writing a reasonably believable or even remotely interesting story." - If it isn't good, people will wonder why they didn't follow the source material a bit close then?

A motorcyclist blows through and busts off his mirror, then they see a helicopter in the distance, so he calmly gets out of his car looking around during a traffic jam...
Yeah right. Would you? Hell no! You'd either be flipping the 2 wheel asshole off and screaming at him, or just screaming at him.
As to the helicopter, so freaking what, they fly over often enough it's no big deal, it's not like he's in Podunk Idaho.

Also, those zombie ant-pile like structures were too fast and fluid, not too mention containing far too many zombies.
finaleve Nov 20 2012, 10:49 am EST
Reality of it is there are 2 actual zombies Dead Island enforces well (outside of the special ones).

Walkers which essentially are the generic walking dead guys. You know, coming out of the ground, limbs falling off, etc.

Infected, much like what is in this trailer, are the ones who have been "infected" with the zombie disease. They slowly turn into a zombie state of mind. Since the body itself hasn't deteriorated, an infected can move as fast as the body is willing.

The generic zombie flick back in the day got old because it wasn't scary enough. I mean, "OOOOOO a zombie is walking towards us" doesn't sound very scary. Meanwhile, "OOOO a zombie is running at us" leaves a bigger impression and instills a fear.

The book is fantastic and I highly recommend it. They could have taken parts of the book and created entire movies out of them. The deep sea divers, the classic assaults, initial defends..and..especially...the Japanese section. From what I have read they have not really utilized the book but changed the whole thing around. The whole point of the book (after the initial outbreak and subsequent attempts/failures to contain) was what happened after and how each country/group dealt and fought back on a technical and emotional/survival level.

Read the book, it's amazing.

Some thoughts on what Valve are up to:

It's biologically and physically impossible for zombies to be as they are depicted in this movies. So if it can't happen, where's the scary part?
jungi Nov 20 2012, 12:21 pm EST
ur brain goes to mush in a matter of minutes after you die. it's biologically impossible for any form of zombies.
Kurio Nov 20 2012, 01:47 pm EST
Suspension of disbelief and all?

Also, depends on "what" zombies.

28 days/weeks later are quite feasible zombies, simply a disease that spreads through body fluids and shuts down any parts of the brain related to reason, leaving only aggression etc.

There are diseases who have mild effects similar to those, in theory it is likely one could build a virus with those effects nowadays.

But the half-rotting walking zombie? nope... those are supposed to be "magic", i guess bacteria/viruses were later versions to make it more believable (or less depending on PoV)
EricHalfBee: A good summary. Some of those early zombie movies des…
satangel Nov 20 2012, 02:02 pm EST
I wonder what would've happen if a virus would shut down the brain, leaving only the part related to GTA 5.
EricHalfBee: Exactly what is happening now?
Chunder Nov 20 2012, 07:40 pm EST
Is this post complaining about a zombie movie not being "realistic" or "believable"? It's a zombie movie.. ZOMBIES. It's not even remotely possible! So who cares if its the old fashion slow moving zombies, or the newer enraged zombies which are crawling over each other to climb a wall! They all eat brains!!!! XD
Breedy_Mcfluff Nov 20 2012, 08:02 pm EST
I look forward to seeing this "Brad Pitt: World Savior."

I still like zombies. I just have always hated how they were done in almost anything other than a book (Zombieland is the one movie I actually liked). Fuck this movie, but I wanna see how over-the-top stupid it is.

"We are the walking dead." gasp
sheckey Nov 20 2012, 08:14 pm EST
I read the book and it was a brilliant set of chapters about how different cultures and nationalities of the world react to a global crisis. It also had some novel ideas about a zombie apocalypse. The book was great. I loaned it to my brother and Dad and they both agreed. Read the book. You can do it in about 4 nights and you'll like it I bet. Now, about the movie. One person acknowledged that it looks totally different from the book, but that he will treat it as unrelated and take it for what it is worth. I plan on that approach. It sucks to see such a great book have very unnecessary changes, but it's still a fun movie I bet. Also, I happen to have a friend who knows the author of the book (Max Brooks - son of Mel Brooks - LOL) and I'll try to find out what eh thinks and let you know.
Chunder: The thing about books is that there isn't any picture…
