Watched Prometheus for the first time last night. Apart from absolutely superb directing, solid acting and brilliant cinematography, I can't say I've seen a lot to make me want to ever want to watch that movie again. The actors were great, but the characters themselves felt, weak and underwritten. Not to mention the fact that the whole story relies way too much on familiar ground that's already been trodden by Alien, Aliens and every other film in the well-known sci-fi horror series.
However, I have to admit one thing. It may be just me, but the movie scared the living crap out of me. So much so that I had nightmares after watching it and couldn't sleep later on.
My general wussiness aside, there's another disappointing thing about this one. The alien species (the one that has the same DNA as humans) looks like it was designed by a retard. Or indeed someone with no imagination whatsoever. What a load of bollocks.

well... blame the designer of the designers... maybe they weren't designed and just happened? or maybe designer's designer will claim that it is a matter of "artistic integrity"? maybe bioware is the designer's designer designing legacy and them fucking up ME3 ending was a matter of DNA?
*zoink*
on the side note: working in DTP, webdesign and few other graphic forms, i can assure you that most people can't design for shit. good designs come from the crazies...
i'm overusing the word 'design'.
Would you have preferred that they resembled Greys or something instead (i.e. tiny, slender, with giant heads)? Because that was the other possible approach, and it seems to me that would have been much more unoriginal, much more generic.
(and besides, don't forget that Alien already showed an Engineer corpse on the derelict ship, so the Engineer design for Prometheus was already set in stone to begin with)
Well anyway, that aside, I generally agree with everything else you said. I still think I want to watch the sequel, though. I like the premise enough, and the franchise enough, to keep coming back. For now.
I think that some of us write these morning posts just to let the others know that we're not dead.
