Glad to see that Woody Allen may be returning to form, even though it may not be the classic hilarious and neurotic form most of us crave. For me, personally, his movies had a tremendous impact on my life. Woody Allen is a thinker and a philosopher. He's also a pervert, which is sort of what I am and that helps me establish a connection with his work and the delightful stories and characters he created over the years. He helped define an entire generation of writers and movie-makers and also had a profound influence on comedy like no other director or screenwriter.
To this day, I just don't understand why some people don't like his movies. When he strays from his usual twisted, cynical and neurotic self, he often comes up with stories that are so beautiful, heartwarming and universally appealing.
The influence of his work can be felt in most movies nowadays. Also, ask any of the top stand-up comedians today to list some of their biggest influences. Woody Allen will almost certainly be the first name that pops up.
