Motion Sensitive X360 Camera, Voice Recognition Tech
Another bit of pretty interesting news from yesterday's Microsoft E3 press conference. "Introducing Project Natal, a revolutionary new way to play: no controller required. See a ball? Kick it, hit it, trap it or catch it. If you know how to move your hands, shake your hips or speak you and your friends can jump into the fun -- the only experience needed is life experience," says MS.

"You are the controller," is the message MS wants to convey. They've showcased a new motion-sensitive controller for the Xbox 360, in the form of a camera that includes voice recognition as well. This handy and fun little accessory is code-named Project Natal. So, far only mini-games and a few tech demos were on display, but it pretty much clear where game technology will be a few years from now.

Check it out:

wow: really useful in a non-living room.
my office space has all my consoles PC/xbox360/PS3/Nintendo 8bit (the last ever Nintendo i owned) but it's a tiny little room...

ya i'm not too optimistic about this. the wii was supposed to be all about the motion sensing technology and that was a huge flop imo. I doubt they'll be able to pull off anything spectacular with this, but I am happy they're setting their sights high.

nice idea, needs work. not enough choices.
King Speedy [mail] Jun 02 2009, 09:45 am EDT
The ricochet demo is much more indicative of how this would probably be used.
JamesPC [mail] Jun 02 2009, 09:53 am EDT
It looks interesting, but I could never be comfortable with it. I'm a old-school gamer who likes the basic controller.
Vader [STAFF] [mail] Jun 02 2009, 10:04 am EDT
Sure it looks cool. In order to be fully immersed, however, I think I'm gonna need a huge HD screen the size of a fucking wall... seriously. Otherwise it's just hoping around in the living room and watching the Goddamn TV set.
JamesPC [mail] Jun 02 2009, 10:07 am EDT
That will only cost you about $5,000 if you are lucky. A lot of cash to play a fucking game. MS better keep the basic controller around.

I think I would rather go Jell-o wrestling.
At least I would be the one getting paid!

the nintendo show was a disaster.
they made so much fuzz about the wii motion plus it was painful, sony didn't announce that the Dual Shock 3 had better motion sensing (but it's a big fricking deal at nintendo 8)

Nintendo has just shot itself in the foot, and have alienated their entire current user base in process..
Apple/Sony/Microsoft are going to smoke Nintendo next year...
thestewieman [mail] Jun 02 2009, 03:07 am EDT
a funny one; a Rockstar Exclusive (AGENT) only on the PS3.
lol@xbox360 (xbox360 lol@u)...
thestewieman [mail] Jun 02 2009, 03:28 am EDT
the nintendo motion plus now looks especially lame right next to multi Sony's motion controller.
Burning [mail] Jun 02 2009, 03:54 am EDT
Shut the *fuck* up already, thestewieman. Your generic 'I own both consoles because I am not poor' talk is really taking the piss already. And secondly, your general whiny attitude is as pleasant as getting bumraped by a rhino.

We get it, you praise the PS3 and Sony. Just stop using rehearsed replies and lighten up. You're resembling Marvin the Paranoid Android at the moment.
thestewieman [mail] Jun 02 2009, 04:21 am EDT
if you shut the hell up with your lol@ps3 i'll shut up about that...
this for that.
it's because you and others are crying about exclusive titles, deal with or get a job...
save your money burning! instead of boozing and screaming on xbox live in Halo3 (i know it's you buddy! i know it's you!)
thestewieman [mail] Jun 02 2009, 04:39 am EDT
thestewie man isn't so stewie anymore, i lost 45kilo's (99pounds) since last year.
so i think i should change my name :D

Stewie Obviouslya fanboi if he didn't get a woody at the Metroid anouncement. What a tool.
Burning [mail] Jun 02 2009, 04:53 am EDT
I have the liberty to tell you to keep it quiet, because I am not among 'the poor'. I actually have an X360, a gaming laptop, a desktop PC and a small Asus laptop I use for taking notes and general work. I don't want a PS3 because I don't care about it's titles and frankly I don't care about the whole console.

I just find your retaliation for the 'lol@ps3' joke pointless. None of us here are actually die-hard Xbox fanboys, you know? We only say lol@ps3 because the Sony fanboys seem to take it so seriously every time and it's just amusing. Step out of the stereotype and laugh with us for a change.

P.S. I have never ever owned a Halo game. I think that whole series is overwhelmingly mediocre.
thestewieman [mail] Jun 02 2009, 05:06 am EDT
why do people here still feel the need to defend xbox live then?
i only play 6hours a month online and still u have to pay for a full month?
there is no logical explanation, because the quality of online isn't better then the PC/PS3 where it's free.

there is no way any game is worth a monthly charge (pc/ps3/xbox360).
and i ain't paying for it, not here there or anywhere.
rasone77 [mail] Jun 02 2009, 05:34 am EDT
@ Stewie like I said you didn't even watch all teh Nintendo press conference. Claiming the new Metroid is an FPS is just proving that. It is a 3d thrid person action game Developed by Team Ninja. (Makers of Ninja Gaiden). If you're as big of an 8bit fan as you claim this game should be at the top of your list.

BTW: you don't have to be a fanboi to appriciate games. i have been playing my PS3 alot more than my Wii (or my 8bit NES with over 400 games for that matter) but that doesn't mean I'm going to blindly ingore a good thing.
thestewieman [mail] Jun 02 2009, 05:48 am EDT
i am not ignoring it, i just don't like it.
doesn't make someone a fanboy, like i don't like god of war and other PS3 games.

it could have been developed by a hunk of clay, i still wouldn't care.
it isn't kotor3 or mass effect 2.
there is nothing on the wii that interests me, i outgrew them (maybe if i get kids, who knows?)
rasone77 [mail] Jun 02 2009, 06:03 am EDT
^Wow. If you keep spending all your time making sure your post is the first one to be seen on the front page of every news article you'll never have a chance to have sex and make a kid. Good luck with your no life.

I like this.
Jedrus [mail] Jun 02 2009, 07:43 am EDT
This is very nice and it even looks like fun.
But, it is not for me.

Since my athletic days of glory are over, I don’t think I would last longer than 10 minutes swinging my arms, jumping, and running, while fighting with legions of orcs, imps, or whatever enemies you can think of.

I share my sentiments here with JamesPC.
Serious gaming is more of a concentration and endurance of the mind for me.
Unless this technology can isolate the movements of the fingers and hands (substituting the controller), I don’t think it will spill into the hard-core games.

But hey, Microsoft noticed huge support Wii received from casual gamers and decided to join the crowd.

So, no sweat, it’s good for the masses, but most of us will probably continue ‘molesting’ our keyboards and mice.
im_stardust [mail] Jun 02 2009, 08:15 am EDT
Thestewieman, I would so like to .... let myself go all over your face ...*ugh*.. spoiled arrogant cunt.

I think more then 70% of the video gamers worldwide (including casual gamers) can barely afford 1 console.
Whisky [mail] Jun 02 2009, 08:55 am EDT
I read the other review article where they pimped out Burnout and you can drive pretending to hold a steering wheel.... that sounds kind of cool.

thestewieman [mail] Jun 02 2009, 09:38 am EDT
more than 70% of gamers have a PC and console im_stardust.
so do you.

the PS3/xbox360/PC/monitors are the only objects i own.
i don't have a car, i don't smoke, i rarely drink, don't have a house "rent", and all my money is directly going to my savings account.
i bought the ps3 and xbox360 from my tax return, it's money i otherwise wouldn't have.

u probably go on vacations and drink.
i have been sober for over 6months.

so was the guy in 40 Year Old Virgin.
cybergod [mail] Jun 03 2009, 03:20 am EDT
Where's all the adult games with this tech.. Gives thrusting air a little more meaning...
If I had a 360, I'd play that handsfree webcam thing naked and make it scan my weapon
