Vanillaware announced on the PlayStation blog that Dragon's Crown has a new patch, and it includes brand new content for free. How did they introduce this concept? With an incredibly awesome poem:
‘Twas the week before Christmas, and all through the house,
No DualShock was stirring because you didn’t know there was a new Dragon’s Crown patch out.
The players are all partying in the tavern with cheer,
Because “Holy Crap!” a new difficulty level and dungeon are here!
The patch raises the level cap from 99 to 255, which apparently you will need to get through a brand new dungeon that opens up after completing the ninth layer of the Labyrinth of Chaos. Basically, finishing the game the first time unlocks a new difficult, the Ultimate difficulty. If you start playing this difficulty, you get to grind out in a new dungeon, the Tower of Mirages, that features tens of thousands of levels. Essentially, you may never finish this game.
If you've already cleared the game and have a character maxed out to level 99, you won't have to start over completely. As long as you have a save file with all of this data, you can make a new character that skips over the first part of the game and starts you right on the road to collecting all of the Talismans.
Move over Ys: Memories of Celceta; I think I need to play more Dragon's Crown.
