New PS3 in Development?

Word is spreading that Sony Computer Entertainment has what's being described
as the plans for a new PS3 model. Reportedly, the new model has been submitted
to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Sony supposedly offered a new
model to the FCC for testing, to provide an upgrade from the present 3000 series
(via NeoGAF).
Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida did kind of hint at this. "We haven't announced anything new on PS3 in terms of hardware revisions," he commented. "We should never say never - hardware guys are always looking at ways to make things cheaper, smaller."

I wouldn't put it past them, I mean how many times did they re-release the PS and PS2?
A portion of their engineers spent time on this, but I doubt they spent much money. And that's rather the point.
