Next Mass Effect Game Without Commander Shepard

BioWare has officially confirmed that Commander Shepard won't be the central character in the next Mass Effect game.
"This is really our starting point. Now the Mass Effect universe is vast, and very, very rich. So at this point in time, we don't even know what kind of time frame we're going to be in. All we're doing is more gathering ideas from the teams," says BioWare Montreal's Fabrice Condominas.
"So first, we don't want to make 'Shepard 2', or Mass Effect 4 with like, 'oh there's no more Shepard but you're a soldier in the universe'. So this will be a very, very different context for sure, and nothing has been decided on the rest," he added.
Well, I think it's safe to say we've really seen enough of Commander Shepard anyway (and his she-male alter ego, Shepardina).

I still hope they go down the character creation route of like Dragon Age where you can actually choose the different alien races to play as and situations play out differently than other races. One reason why I like playing the multiplayer of ME3 once in awhile.

And soon the studio will be dismantled and called "EA's bitch"
It's vogue for y'all to hate on BioWare here on AT, but the objective reality is that continuing to develop and expand the Mass Effect IP represents much more artistic ambition at this point than just trotting out yet another derivative Stars Wars game.
However, if you were to complain that BioWare should start on an all new IP of some sort, I'd be more sympathetic to that sentiment.
But Stars Wars? No. Fuck Star Wars. I'm as sick of Jedi as I am killing Nazis.
