No Plans for Spec Ops: The Line Sequel
Filed under: SPEC OPS: THE LINE

Spec Ops: The Line is one of my absolute favorite games and was very high on my list for games of the year for 2012. However, developer Yager has said that the studio is moving on, and they do not plan to return to the franchise.

In an interview with Gamestar.de (thanks for the translation, NeoGAF!), managing director Timo Ullman explained that Spec Ops took five years to develop and did not do well finanically.

"If you can't compete with the big ones, the risk is too big," he emphasize. "The market for 'smart' or 'intellectual' games is too niche, elitist, almost."

As part of their moving on process, Yager is working on Deep Silver's Dead Island 2 and Dreadnought, an MMO sci-fi combat game.

That's a shame. I am glad the game does exist in the sea of Call of Duties.
