Since the Xbox 360 supported cross-game chat with a Gold subscription, many people complained that the PlayStation 3 did not offer this feature even though the online features of the console were free. While a cross-game chat feature wasn't possible with the PS3, Sony has rectified the matter with the PlayStation 4. In fact, the PS4 will support up to eight people at once for cross-game chat.
Sid Shuman confirmed this on the PlayStation Blog in a Q&A for Killzone: Shadow Fall. The Vita already supports 8 players in cross-party chat, and now the PlayStation 4 will do the same.
I can't imagine talking to that many people at once who aren't playing the same game as I am, as I would find it really distracting, but at least the PS4 will have the feature at all.
