More than reasonable I'd say. But then again id tech always did scale wonderfully. The more I see and hear about Rage the more I'm looking forward to it. Apparently Carmack also is a really good PR guy.

Well, in my experience, id games were always optimized to work smoothly, even on modest systems, hence Rage should work fine on most rigs.

Rage is a DX9 game play-tested and QA'ed for the consoles' specs first and foremost (confirmed by an id dev in a GameInformer article I read like a year ago or something), so these recommended specs make sense.

And I'm not saying this is a bad thing. It tells us that, FOR ONCE, this id Software game isn't just a hardware envelope-pushing tech-demo masquerading as a video-game. THIS time they're not just trying to sell cutting-edge graphics engine tech to the rest of the industry for licensing, using the game itself as a de facto figurehead for that purpose.

This is a change in id Software philosophy that I welcome. It means they've really, truly focused on the gameplay experience well above and beyond any other project agenda with Rage.

True. Completely true. If they fine-tune the gameplay to the extent that gamers can enjoy themselves without vomiting in the face of yet another mediocre shooter, then they've done their job.
Neil: Please let this be the case!

Well, they still want to license the shit out of id Tech 5, they just realize, given the dominance of U3, they need it to perform on consoles. A single pipeline to all platforms is extremely valuable, extra bells and whistles on PC not so much.

I'm sure they intend to license out id Tech 5 to anyone interested... but I can't see that being remotely a primary agenda with Rage, simply because it's an engine designed for this console generation, and this generation isn't gonna last all that much longer. MAYBE three more years (and I think that's generous)? At best, that's only one development cycle available for licensing out the engine to other studios before its stale goods.

Unless they're very dumb, id Software must realize that. And they went right ahead with an engine focused solely on DX9 anyway, and so I think that speaks volumes as to their priorities with Rage.

Or at least, I hope it does.

I believe idTech5 will be used internally only, i.e. all Zenimax Studios only.

My only problem with those gpu requirements is that any Geforce 8 as in 8800GS, GT, GTS,GTX are much stronger then Radeon 4200, heck their much stronger then 4770 or 4830 its when you get the 4850/4870 is when they match or outperform the Geforce 8's
Then the 9800GTX for recommended? the 9800GTX is only a rehash of the newer 8800 GTS's and again a Radeon 5550? a 5670 is nearly equal to a 8800/9800GT, and a 5770 beats a 9800GTX. so I think there is only a couple of reasons ether this game is crazily AMD optimized , or someone dont know Nvidia and AMD equivalence.

Whatever and EVER. (Whatever that means)

Those are some ridiculously reasonable specs. The thing I like about Id; is that their games look very much the same on PC AND consoles. Only thing is PC has much better graphical customization than a console... obviously.

Anyway... I'm really looking forward to rage. I have great hope that it's actually going to be a good game (or possibly more). However, the co-op missions seem a little disappointing to me. I would much rather be able to play through the campaign with a friend but have the choice of individual missions as well. That thought may be premature though. I'll just have to wait to find out.

Geforce 9800 is the HIGH end card here recommended? Yeah right.

I think I remember John C saying they would probably release a high rez texture pack for PC after they launch and quash anything unexpected bug wise.
