Risen 3 Announced

Piranha Bytes announces Risen 3: Titan Lords, which is set to hit stores during August 2014 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. As with previous installments and similarly to the company's classic, Gothic, players will get the freedom to explore a rich and open world, which the devs describe as "diverse, authentic and full of life, providing the player with an authentic, classic RPG experience."

“Like a carpenter with a handcrafted piece of furniture, we put together the story, the characters and the landscape until it all fits and the player has the possibility to discover things all around the place. You can try out and find things that others might not. Exploration is the key to our game”, said Bjoern Pankratz, Project Lead at Piranha Bytes

As far as the premise goes, well, check it out: "The world of Risen 3 is abandoned by all gods and suffers from the Titan Wars when a new threat rises from the soil. A young warrior is attacked from the shadows and deprived of his soul. He sets off to reclaim what is lost amidst the darkness that is spreading throughout the world. The banned Mages could be powerful allies on his quest. To get their help, he needs to find the Mage sanctuary on Taranis, also known as the Island of Thunder. Protected by the Guardians, the Mages search the mines of Taranis for crystals loaded with magic energy. Will the player join the Guardians to get in contact with the Mages? Or will he choose one of the other guilds in Risen 3 to reach his goals?"

Titan Wars in Tanaris where the hero reclaims his soul. Originality at its best.

It was good.

I love Piranha Bytes games period. Even though the stories may not be the best out there, and their combat systems leave a little to the imagination at times. The world map they make may not be as big as Skyrim but my god they are full things to do at every corner packed with secret treasure and towns are full of interesting people that actually feel like they belong there, in that world. Sure it might be buggy but there are a small handful of mods for the game that can potentially fix them. But hey what game isn't buggy on release nowadays? *Looking at you EA*

I guess the point I'm trying to make here is I can't wait to play this game and explore the new world with my nameless hero.

Yeah, that's what I was hoping when Risen 2 was coming out and it really just wasn't as fun as Risen 1.

Risen 2 was fun in it's own right. To be honest I can't remember much of Risen 1 due to the amount of time since I've played it. But I do remember putting around 50+ hours into Risen 1 as opposed to the second which only took me around 34 hours to complete 90% of it (don't have any dlc for it though). But I loved every minute of it. Perhaps in the 3rd installment will include somehow finding a wormhole that takes you to Myrtana and it ends up being a remake of Gothic. THAT would be amazing! :P

I don't understand people who like Risen series.....the gameplay, especially the combat mechanics, is so bad that it kills the rest of the game for me. Voice acting was horrible too, and no the combat wasen't hard it was just "stupid".

Risen was an uninspired Gothic clone. They just swapped the nameplates of NPCs and factions. Everything else was one big copycat job.
Risen 2 was at least equally uninspired. The transition from Risen 1 to Risen 2 was weak. The story was bullshit with gaping plot holes. Characters were straight from PotC Mickey Mouse land (especially fuck the gnomes). There was plenty of technical incompetence with clipping, flickering and LoD issues (balloon effect of the vegetation). And the end boss/fight was just as retarded as with Risen 1.
It was overall a very mediocre game.

That's why Risen 3, for me, is another case of waiting for a Steam sale in the sub $9.99 range including all DLC.

I'm so back logged I haven't really played more then 2 or so hours of Risen 2, but it seems good to me. Not sure what people didn't like. Their stories area always ok nothing special, but the atmosphere in 2 just seemed more unique hope they don't lose that.

Risen 1 was the first RPG I ever played. I haven't been gaming for that long mmkay. Before that I played shooters and RTS and racing games and stuff.

It's now my second favorite game ever, simply due to the sheer joy of exploration. The exploration made me so happy I loved every other aspect of the game, even the combat system. It made me so happy that I played Gothic 3 and Risen 2. It made me so happy that I became a fan of RPGs. Risen 1 is why I hate the bland repetitive world of Skyrim. It's why whenever an RPG promises exploration, I call bullshit.

It's entirely possible that STALKER SoC, Risen 1, and Alpha Protocol are not great, or even good games.

But they are my three favorite games in this world, and that will never change.
Reikhardt: Alpha Protocol is so nearly an amazing game. The flex…

Aww yess! I'm happy that they are making the 3rd one. It might be shit, but it also might be damn good...if they learnt anything from the poop that was Risen 2 :S
