Rome 2: Total War Hinted
A Rome 2: Total War announcement might be just around the corner. According to the next month page for Australian gaming mag PC PowerPlay, UK developer Creative Assembly could be working on the game - the magazine published an teaser image of the original Rome: Total War cover art, furnishing it with the 'II' numeral, hinting a possible sequel to the widely acknowledged real-time strategy (thanks, CVG).

Hm, I was just wondering how they make these decisions where to put the '2s' in their titles? What, Rome 2: Total War? Nah, let's just make it 2Rome: Total War. That's hip. Or better yet Rome: Total 2 War.

Why the hell would you want the WW1 setting?

Yeah, riveting battles involving the two sides digging miles of trenches and fruitlessly charging at each other's lines for months, then years. Gosh, sounds awesome.

WW1 could be made interesting if artistic license would be heavily used.
then again history fetishists would probably start making online petitions regarding unrealistic portrayal of their favourite organised massacre.

WW 1 would be way too hard to do. you would have to change the entire way you play the game. armies would not be one concentrated body but would be spread over large areas, also units would have different weapons like machine guns in them how wold that work? finally what about air support? no I'm sorry i just don't think it is up to the job.

Can't wait the original was my favorite game. As for WW1 it's possible to make, You basically fight the same way in every game anyway.

The whole point those of us with a clue are making is that starting with WW1, military conflicts WERE NOT fought the same way. Not even close.

The advent of the entrenched machine-gun changed everything. And in WW1, the problem was that the machine-gun came about BEFORE truly sophisticated tanks and air-to-ground attack air-force, so while armies had the perfect weapon to entrench with and easily hold off infantry and horse cavalry, they had no counter to it yet.

Thus, WW1 turned into the most horrific, and yet most BORING war in human history. Endless stalemates don't make for interesting gameplay.
