RPG From Warhorse Studios Utilizes CryEngine 3
Czech development studio Warhorse Studios -- whose members worked on games like Mafia (1,2) and Operation Flashpoint -- announced that they plan to utilize the CryEngine 3 for the company's new role-playing game.

"We looked at every major technology out there and CryENGINE 3 suits our needs perfectly. We are confident it will allow us to make the vision for our game come true," said Warhorse exec producer Martin Klima.

The devs added: "The debut title for the studio will combine open-world experience with a rich story and innovative gameplay elements," as explained by the developers.

Open-world, eh? Could it be that everyone wants to hope on the Skyrim-triggered winning bandwagon of free-roam single-player RPGs? It certainly appears so. Oh well, we can't say anything for sure at this point, because no specifics were given regarding the game itself. Let's just wait and see, shall we...

Heard of Illusion softworks and 2k but first time I hear of Warhorse studios.

Anyway, I was thinking of an open world RPG on the cryengine since I was playing Crysis. Crysis was practically not worthy of the engine.

And this engine has way more potential than any engine Bethesda has made; Bethesda and their sluggish, faulty, crappy animations and silly colors.

Mafia 2 was a disappointment because of it's short story and linear gameplay but if this guys pull their heads out their asses, they might make a rpg worth while.

But if it was up to me, I'd like a sequel to one of the best WW2 and tactical shooter games ever made: Hidden and Dangerous 2.

DarK Messiah of Might and Magic needs to be mentioned as well. A great rpg built on the source engine which gameplay is BY FAR way more fun than the recent Skyrim.
xionxinx: Funny thing is, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic as actually ...

The news today made me very happy. I've wanted to see a non-shooter AAA title built with Cryengine for soooo long now.

I actually really liked Crysis though - it's what introduced me to the world of shooters in the first place, first and foremost as a graphics whore (and Crysis tickled that spot admirably) and secondly due to the emergent gameplay I'd not seen in a shooter yet (the nanosuit)...

This RPG better be worthy of the engine. None of this Bioware crap with the level design of a CoD game.

I enjoyed Mafia 2 very much, because while it was short for an RPG, it was very well constructed as a story telling experience, something I liked the GTA games for - but in my opinion Mafia 2 did even better.

I really hope the level of narrative excellence displayed in Mafia 2 goes into this new RPG.
