Skylanders-esque Pokemon coming to the Wii U in Japan
Filed under: POKEMON

Miyamoto has said that Nintendo wanted to focus on successfully implementing the near field communication feature of the Wii U before other features, and it looks like the company has done just that. What's more, they've opted to use the feature for the one game franchise everyone thought (and most people hoped) they would: Pokemon.

According to CoroCoro Comic magazine, the upcoming Pokemon Scramble U will use NFC Pokemon figures, much like Skylanders does with its toys.

The figures will go on sale across Pokemon Centers in Japan on April 24th for 200¥ each, and there are six different types plus one special type. By scanning each Pokemon figure into the Wii U GamePad, players can essentially "raise" their own Pokemon and save each Pokemon's progress per figure.

This will definitely bring a whole new meaning to "gotta catch 'em all." If you thought the Skylanders rush was bad, I'm afraid we ain't seen nothin' yet.

...I'm almost positive Nintendo has tried stuff like this before. I remember the e-Reader being a something which would have been cool, much like their AR Cards which I don't think they've done anything with (the tech demo that came with the 3DS is pretty damn good).
