Assassin's Creed II was originally available for download right here, with Silent Hunter V could be snatched here. Both of these pages now now read "Sorry! An error was encountered while processing your request: This item is currently unavailable in your region."
A PC games industry insider commented: "It's the latest in the Ubisoft DRM blow-up. Steam doesn't want to lose its reputation for customer service, and these games have angered its user-base."
Thanks, CVG.
UPDATE: We have no confirmation from Ubisoft on this and Steam hasn't commented officially either. It's still not certain if these games are available via Steam in that particular region.
UPDATE 2: A statement from Ubisoft reads: 'The games listed are available for sale in all other countries on Steam. The fact they are not available on Steam UK has nothing to do with the DRM - but is linked to a local business discussion between Ubisoft and Steam in UK.'

EDIT: Now that I have my replacement HD 5770 installed, I say TEN cheers for Valve! Perhaps Ubisoft will finally come to their senses, and drop this DRM.
Oh cruel fate, why does thou mocketh me ?
btw Ubi sucks and no one will buy any pc games untill the sholic drm is removed wid a nic apology statement n sum things (like the conviction demo n ghost recon beta to be added)
I'm in the States. Maybe there's something screwy going on with the content servers for some other countries? I dunno.
Fact is, this new DRM seems to be working in keeping pirates from playing the games even if it angers and disrupts some users playing experience.
Just enjoying the game and supporting the devs. They are just trying to curb down a bit on the rampant piracy and we all know we have followed that path a little.
i have my lovely disc of Spellforce 2 here on the special shelf, it represents my PURCHASED FUCKING RIGHT to play it whenever, wherever i want.
ubisoft decided to transform a permanent right into a privilege (special entitlement granted by authority to a restricted group on a conditional basis).
you motherfuckers are controlled and somehow manage to see an upside to it, im almost envious of your blind optimism.
Then again, I do love in the area of europe where they overcharge their costumers quite thoroughlly
