Today's Controversy: Blizzard Donates $800,000 to Make-A-Wish Foundation
Irony makes me horny.

Blizzard has donated 50% of all proceeds from the special Moonkin Hatchling pet for World of Warcraft, which was available last November and December. Half of what was made comes out to $800,000, and that was what Blizzard donated.

In addition, two boys got to meet the WoW development team and see how content for the game is made.

It almost makes me want to tear up, but crying is for pussies, no matter how drunk you are.

Why exactly is this a controversy?

This a controversy because they were cheap and could afford more due to the wow cash cow.

It's a charity. What they can afford is irrelevant in that context, because they had no prior obligation to give anything away, period. They didn't have to do this moonkin pet thing at all.

I guess Smapdey is implying that Blizzard should have given ALL the profits from the moonkin thing to charity. And now that I think about it, I suppose I agree, actually.

But Blizzard has become addicted to money. So even with a cheap gimmick for charity, they still couldn't resist pocketing some of the proceeds... I highly doubt the moonkin pets cost them 800 grand in production costs, so even giving half the profits away, they made money hand over fist and and I'm sure some people got a nice bonus on their most recent paycheck.

Actually, just the irony of claiming this is a controversy made me giggle, and that's why it got listed as Today's Controversy.
