Tom Hardy is Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell Movie
Filed under: SPLINTER CELL, TOM HARDY

Actor Tom Hardy, who among his many roles recently portrayed the villain in the last Dark Knight movie, is now confirmed to play the lead role in the upcoming movie based on Ubisoft's Splinter Cell game.

"His involvement in the 'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell' movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike," Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Jean-Juliet Baronnet. "Meanwhile, Eric Singer is one of the most talented writers of the moment, and ... we're confident he'll bring a fresh approach and create a thrilling story."

Look, a movie based on Assassin's Creed - sure, that sounds cool. With the right screenwriter and director, that thing could work. But Splinter Cell? I dunno...

You could definitely make splinter-cell into a passable spy thriller. Hardy's a good actor, too, so maybe the script isn't awful.

I find making movies about new generation video games pointless, since video game gives the impression of a movie itself.

Never heard of this Tom Hardy before I saw Dark Knight Rises. And quite frankly, I'm hardly impressed.

As many other said, George Clooney would have had a perfect face as Sam Fisher. But I'm not sure he would have captured Sam Fisher's character and attitude very well.

I honestly can't think of a known or famous actor suited to play Sam Fisher.

Tom Hardy's awesome.

He's not really appropriate for Sam Fisher, though. Obviously Fisher is supposed to be like 15-20 years older than Hardy.

However, I also don't think a Splinter Cell movie should be made at all, so I suppose it's a moot a point, ultimately.

Is movies like this I would like to see a brand new actor playing instead of a Hollywood celebrity. Marky Mark in Max Payne totally ruined my interest in that movie.

Rafal: Great is an overstatement. He's OK.
Cheddar: My opinion.

It's worth making video game-based movies, because nongamers don't know/don't care it's based on a video game, and the fans of the game will be slightly more likely to see the movie even if it has barely anything to do with the game.

Giving a movie a video game title is basically an easy way to get extra few %'s in return on investment.

I do like Tom Hardy though, so the movie can't be a total piece of shit if it has him in it.
