Top Creators Back Latest Tropes vs. Women Video

Anita Sarkeesian has released another Tropes vs. Women in Video Games video, which is part two of her analysis of the "Damsel in Distress" trope. YouTube briefly pulled the video after several members flagged it as inappropriate, but after Sarkeesian's appeal, it is back for all to take in.

While Sarkeesian has once again been attacked on Twitter for her latest video, she's also been supported by two of media's largest creators, Tim Schaefer and Joss Whedon.

Sarkeesian's series, Tropes vs. Women in Video Games, is the result of successful crowdfunding in 2012, where she asked for $6,000 and raised $160,000. This video makes the fourth entry in her series.

i hate this feminist idiot for turning awareness into rebellion.

Anita whatsherface talks about violence against women in video games not as criticism for the cliché but as some kind of revelation that MEN who play games that depict this violence against women either are indoctrinated into becoming a wife-beater in the future or is jerking off to posters of dead female bodies.

lady, if you're going to slam a fictional scenario you better first analyze it's source of inspiration and present context.
Ubisoft may or may not know the pirate laws of old where raping and killing women would be punishable by death but movies over the decades have not thought about shedding light on the matter have they ? so of course entertainment media may think of "wenches" getting fucked and crippled within piratical themed stories.

look at arabian women, indian women, asian women, listen to your neighbours, maybe some of them are punching their wives/girlfriends right now, it's not right but it's true....should all fiction involving women be based off of Shakespearean romance ?

by the way, im no mathematical genius but im pretty sure that in all the games i've played, the ratio of how many MEN and how many WOMEN i brutally murdered is easily 100 to 1.

PS. play Mass Effect smartass or Neverwinter Nights, Elder Scrolls, Torchlight, Diablo, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Kingdoms of Amalur.

there are games out there offering you the "weak" woman to be a hero and save the world so please don't generalize games.

PPS. what about music huh ? ever thought about criticizing rap music or hip hop and RnB or whatever the fuck for labeling women as: baby, hoe, bitch, shawty etc.
RenegadeCZ: Context? Who needs that? It actually is that the scen…

PPPS. "in games violence against women is used as incentive for dealing with the villain".
yeah, we see something bad being done and we want to punish the fucker making those actions.
"female trauma is trivialized in these games despite being a harsh truth of reality".

how can it be trivialized if it's so in your face that it enrages that part of your brain turning you into Judge Dredd ?

i hate pseudo-intellectuals who contradict themselves.

I don't have time for this nonsense right now, so I'll just say that she should have analyzed those scenes in context. Why do you think she didn't ?

Anyway, she made a small fortune on Kickstarter and all she managed to produce are a handful of biased, superficial videos that misrepresent the issue. Her "work" does more harm than good for the cause, which I support, just not like this. There are youtube videos that analyze and dismantle her bs. But no gaming site ever links to those.

Here's a newsflash: SOME men are hopelessly attracted to women, and even though they'd rarely admit it in public, they WORSHIP the ground they walk on. We want to make love to sexy women, all day, every day. Imagine that ladies ! We're crazy about you ! Please forgive us. We're pathetic, we know...

Just because we're obsessed with naughty women, doesn't mean we disrespect them or want to blow their brains out. Doesn't Sarkeesian know that ? Games are a fantasy, not simulators preparing "presumed straight males" for a real life rape and murder spree. This woman must think we're all a bunch of weak willed savages. I don't doubt for a second that she has a skewed and unhealthy view on sex in general.

This reminds me of Cooper Lawrence with the Fox Mass Effect "Scandal".

Such utter nonsense. As if the "damsel in distress" trope qualifies as "misogyny". Fucking please.
Damocles Aug 28 2014, 11:10 am EDT
1. Regardless of gender/race/creed/etc., as an individual, if you want respect - Fucking earn it.
2. Respect is a 2 way street, if you can't show respect for the opposite gender, you engender none for yours. (Pun intended.)
3. Woman produce/direct/promote media that play into "misogynist" archetypes and stereotypes of their gender just as often as men do. (e.g. - Watch any "reality" TV show with women. You think that crap stays on the air because of male viewership? Think "damsel in distress" is misogynistic? Get your fellow women to stop buying trashy romance novels. That'll do a million times more good for the female gender than eradicating perceived gender bashing in video games.)
4. Don't want a man that doesn't respect you, or an abusive male in your life? Don't date the "bad boy". In fact, I'd bet 999 times out of 1000, you be safer, happier, and more respected with a gamer nerd who plays "misogynist" games.

Oh, one last shot at the whole "damsel in distress" thing. Damsel in distress happens all the damn time with the female gender. You know why? Except for very rare cases, she got herself into trouble making bad choices, denied they were bad choices, and then was too lazy to rescue herself before she was neck deep in the shit.
