Ubisoft Says Their DRM Wasn't Cracked
Here's what Ubisoft has to say regarding claims that Silent Hunter 5 and Assassin's Creed II (Russian version) were cracked and are already playable: “You have probably seen rumors on the web that Assassin’s Creed II and Silent Hunter 5 have been cracked,” Ubisoft told us in a statement this morning. “Please know that this rumor is false and while a pirated version may seem to be complete at start up, any gamer who downloads and plays a cracked version will find that their version is not complete.”

I'll leave you to think what you like. I've checked what people are saying on various gaming sites and forums and it's still not certain what Ubi means when they say the pirated versions of the two titles are "incomplete" - some gamers who have tried the pirated version of SH 5 are saying you can't play beyond a particular point in the game, while others are saying that there's a workaround for that. People also think Ubisoft is referring to stuff like lack of Achievements or DLC.

Saying that a pirated game isn't "complete" somehow is standard damage control. 99% people don't play for stuff like achievements anyway.
Anticitizen714: It isn't complete... it doesn't include the DRM.

lol ubisoft need to understand that pirates want to crack this game more than ever just to show how big their penis are, all these drm talk is going to hurt ubisoft more than they think

They're in denial! I said a couple of week ago that they are going to shoot themselves in the leg with this DRM. Buyers will be those that will be scr*wed and pirates will play game without problems (maybe couple of days later, but still)
This statement is just standard "damage control" to those of gamers that bought they're games.

I still don't understand why they pretend like pirating isn't happening for consoles.

They said SH5 had bits of the single player campaign on Ubi servers.

So you theoretically cannot play the full game if it's not authenticated or something. This is also why you need constant net connection: data is taken from servers.
un om bun: Cute. Single player MMOGs.
Blurg: Single player online games? SPOGs?

as far as i remember the first part of AC also "was not complete"... until someone made a fix. so probably the pirate version is complete, just needs polishing of the crack itself.

I'm sure our cracker friends will find a way. As for me I'm going to show my displeasure like how I did to MW2. By not buying it.

EA said the same thing about The SIms 3 pre-release. It was only missing a map everyone gets for free anyway at release.
Nameinuse [mail] Mar 04 2010, 01:42 pm EST
Who cares if it's not complete. The DRM was supposed to make the game unplayable unless authenticated, and it doesn't.
Anticitizen714: Which it is succeeding at. You can't play past the tutorial ...

I know what it is. 5 stages of grief:
1 - Denial
2 - Anger
3 - Bargaining
4 - Depression
5 - Acceptance

Ubisoft version:
1 - Denial
2 - Anger
3 - Red tape everything and call the lawyers
4 - Depression
5 - Back to Denial
Superastic: For that you get a twinky.
Alchi: aahh - a self-perpetuating cycle of ignorance.

I would be upset at Ubi for making false statements, but then again those aren't games that I give a shit about.. fire up the torrent drive.
