US Retail Game Sales Drop
Uros "Vader" Pavlovic

In the United States, the total revenue from retail games, consoles and accessories
contracted by %20 during July - that's according to data gathered by NPD. Word
is that sales of game goods at retail generated $548 million; down from the
$686 million made during the same period the year before.
Here are the top-selling US titles in the previous month:
- NCAA Football 13 (360, PS3)
- Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (Wii, 360, DS, PS3, 3DS, Vita, PC)
- The Amazing Spider-Man (360, PS3, 3DS, DS, Wii)
- Just Dance 3 (Wii, 360, PS3)
- Batman Arkham City (360, PS3, PC)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, DS, Wii, PC)
- Assassin's Creed: Revelations (360, PS3, PC)

this also doesn't count online sales from stuff like steam and blizzard. July had the Steam summer sale and Diablo 3 went past 10million sales.
But this retail sales report probably doesn't affect by PC game much. I think the main decrease are because...
1) less people play videogames in general (summer vacation, outdoor vacation..)
2) many mobile gamers (casual or not) move away from traditional mobile gaming devices like PSP and DS to iPad and Smartphone (online distribution only).
3) no new gaming hardware to spice up the market this year
I've actually been picking at my backlog a little since I finished Diablo 3. I found a real gem of a game I bought at a steam sale who knows how long ago... "Orcs Must Die". It's been on my drive for 6-12 months without looking at it. I am now addicted, and they just released a sequel.
My 360 has been neglected for months except for the occasional Pinball FX or Netflix.
