Wii U Won't Offer Any Video Playback
I have an idea! Let's make a console with a controller that is its own console unto itself, and not offer any of the features that a conventional video game console has. We'll make up some gibberish name that is a deliberate misspelling of a pronoun. We'll call it the Ussssss with six S's for a sextuple dose of suck.

Nintendo has decided that Wii U, just like the Wii, won't play any DVDs or Blu-rays. I guess this works for them, probably because everyone already has something that plays DVDs or Blu-rays. Still, I feel kind of cheated. I like slowly destroying the disk drives on my consoles by using them to play movies. It makes me feel like a man.

If they ain't using DVDs or Blu-ray, then their disc format will likely suck dick.

Seriously, if it's the same format or similar format to the Wii, Sounds like it'll be shit. Either way, Nintendo is dead to me. Has been since the Wii was born.

Yet another reason not to buy Nintendo anymore.

This is a really stupid move by Nintendo. Many gamers play movies on their consoles, just like I used to. My original Xbox was my DVD player for three years and it did a damn good job. My old PS3 was my Blu-Ray player until it broke. It's common sense to have game consoles play movies too. I guess Nintendo doesn't have common sense anymore :(

i've never played a dvd/blue ray in any of my consoles. unless you can't afford a $25 dvd player, why would you subject your console to extra wear and tear?

either way, its not like they eat the costs of licensing the stupid things from sony for their bluray licensing (and i can imagine sony's trying to bend over anyone wanting to license anything these days) and whoever holds the rights to the dvd move playback formats.

that junk gets passed down straight to the consumer, i don't feel like paying for it again.

Now you know Nintendo loves there own cartridge discs. They will never embrace it. They have been this way since the ps showed cd's work.

I think you're confusing DVD/Blu-ray with "any video playback". There are multiple other ways to get video onto a console - physical media is dying.
