Xbox LIVE for Windows 8
Filed under: XBOX LIVE, WINDOWS, WINDOWS 8
Microsoft is just getting warmed up and has massive plans for Windows 8, apparently. One part of the plan is to bring Xbox LIVE to the PC via Windows 8. Here's the word:

"We are confirming that we will be bringing Xbox LIVE to the PC with Xbox LIVE on Windows. We are very excited about Xbox LIVE coming to Windows 8. Xbox LIVE brings your games, music, movies, and TV shows to your favorite Microsoft and Windows devices. Bringing Xbox LIVE to Windows 8 is part of our vision to bring you all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy. At BUILD we are showing that it is easy for developers to create games for Windows 8 that take advantage of the power of Xbox LIVE. We have much more detail to share about the capabilities of Xbox LIVE on Windows and look forward to the opportunity to do so in the near future."

Admit it. You are so excited right now.

*groan* The last thing I need on my PC is Xbox Live. We don't even need Windows 8. Vista is good, and Windows 7 is really good. Of course that won't stop MS from shoving Windows 8 down our throats :(

Xbox Live is stupid, I have an Xbox and used it maybe 5 or 6 times to download a demo and play few rounds of MvC3. It's just a glorified download site that also alows you to pay to play games you already own online, that is all! If you live outside of USA you won't have access to video streaming and other services (that are also payed and available to gold members, so douple money grab). People who don't care about achievement points, ugly avatars and other crap that fills Xbox Live won't have any use of this.
There IS a slight possibility that this feature also carries an updated XNA that will allow for painless porting of XBLA and Xbox indie games to PC. Now that would be awesome!

I wouldn't say I'm excited. This was always inevitable.

But suffice it to say that ANYTHING which pays attention to the PC platform is good for the PC platform these days, even if its the beginning stages of assimilation with console gaming (which has already begun with the games themselves, anyway).
