XCOM FPS Changes Genre?
Uros "Vader" Pavlovic
12:17 pm EDT @ October 01st, 2012

2K Marin's forthcoming XCOM first-person shooter is, well, may no longer be a first-person shooter, according to a report posted by Kotaku. The scoop is that XCOM will be turned into a 3rd-person squad-based shooter - something along the lines of SOCOM or Republic Commando.
If you want to recall how the XCOM game looked like before, check out this old 20-min gameplay footage, when they still wanted to make it a FPS.
Although the game was initially meant to arrive sometime this year, it was delayed to 2013.
Meanwhile, the strategy game, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, developed by Firaxis Games is going to be released on October 9 in the US, (Oct. 12 across Europe) for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Check out the PC demo here, if you've missed it.

Reply Third-person? Squad-based? I don't mind that at all. As long as it isn't cover-based. God knows I am absolutely sick of playing Gears of War. |

Reply I still hope an Xcom game gets the full fps treatment in the future, then add modules to it like flight sim for the interceptor and have a team mate fly the troops in for the mission. lets make an mmo and have a persistant world. More aliens invade based on more people on the server. shouldn't be too hard to do. look at DCS. |

Reply Along the lines of Republic Commando? This game might actually be good then! |

Reply You guys seem overly optimistic about a game that had to change its genre... Having that happen partway through the development process is not a very good sign... |

Reply Well when 1/3 of the staff leaves the project you know something was wrong with it earlier this year. |

Reply Republic Commando? That game wasn't third-person. |

Reply Thanks god they made a new X-COM game play like an original X-COM first. I just hope there will be a new Syndicate game play like the original one. |
