YouTube Sensation PewDiePie Makes $4 Million a Year

Felix Kjellberg, a/k/a PewDiePie on YouTube, apparently rakes in over $4 million a year for his YouTube channel thanks to ad revenue and his 27 million subscribers. I had no idea there could be such a lucrative career in streaming and yelling at video games. Maybe I do need to make something of my own YouTube project idea, "Keri Sucks at Video Games."

Some may say that PewDiePie is just lucky, having hit that streaming bug before it got immensely easy for everyone to do, but he attributes it to his sparkling personality.

"Unlike many professionally produced shows, I think I've established a much closer contact with my viewers, breaking the wall between the viewer and what's behind the screen," he told the Wall Street Journal. "What I and other YouTubers do is a very different thing, it's almost like hanging around and watching your pal play games."

So, thinking of suddenly switching your career to video game streaming?

He may make that much. I don't know. I don't care. Wha I'm angry about is that there are hundreds of youtubers who deserve the popularity a lot more than him. Who put actual work into their videos, who are funny, smart, good at what they do/play. All this guy does is play stupid shit, talk stupid shit and do stupid shit. And his fanbase has to be a bunch of 10 year olds, cuz anytime someone posts a negative (even though constructive) comment on his videos, he gets swarmed by a mob of retarded angry fanboys.

Or I may be wrong and things are different. But I did take a bit of time to investigate his videos and the community he has created to learn why is he the #1 on Youtube. At first I thought he was some wonderful entertainer I had just missed. I was terrified to learn that wasn't the case at all.

Only reason he gets that much views is because of his girlfriend...

The stupid unknown games he plays are actually amusing sometimes. It's amazing to me that people actually take the time to make a game out of their sick, incoherent ideas.

His commentary is just random blabbering that I somehow don't notice when a bunch of retarded shit starts happening on the screen. But when I watched his playthrough of a normal AAA game, it became painfully obvious that he has trouble communicating properly and that blabbering becomes pretty annoying and out of place.

Although, you gotta hand it to the guy. He is consistent at what he does, he knows why his audience watches him, what they like and he constantly finds new, unknown games to play and churns out tons of videos every day that are faithful to their needs. Stupid or not, thats a lot of work. That being said, the amount of devotion and money he gets is beyond ridiculous.

i never understood the concept of sitting around watching other playing games, just sounds about as fun as watching paint dry. kids are dumb these days.
Snowy007: I could say the exact same thing about sports. :)

i watch other people play games because i don't make 4 million dollars to afford a new computer and i still love games.

all the best wishes to the lucky cunt, he's not taking anyone's money because it all comes from ads and as far as i've heard, Pewdiepie or however that's spelled is a dumpster of cum and a senseless waste of blood and organs BUT Felix Kjellberg is in reality a somewhat modest and warm friendly person.

more importantly, he offers free publicity to some good indie games; which is great because the children who usually watch Pewdiepie would accept a 24 hour live footage of him passing a kidney stone or a burrito.

Every single website just mentions the insane amount of money the guy makes, but somehow none of them mention this:

"It would also be worthy to mention that despite the money he makes, he has donated over millions to several charities and keeps doing so. Winning the "King of the Web" and the money he won, he donated all to World Wildlife Fund (WWF). With the help of his fans, he has manged to raise a fund for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Upon reaching 10 million subscribers, PewDiePie managed a charity "Water Campaign", where the fans could donate money. He initially aimed for 250,000 USD, but evidently reached around 446,000 USD in total."

Quoting some other dude because i know this is all true and am too lazy to type it myself. Also i would like to add that he didn't just use the donated money for charity but also donated very much himself. I remember at least one campaign where he doubled the amount of money from the donations.
Keri_Honea: That's really awesome to hear that he does that.
